Shawn Marion might be a great acquisition for us

Post#1 » by Baseline Runner » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:52 pm

Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge Shawn Marion fan. I always thought he was very overrated, more like a top 40-50 player in the league instead of a top 20 player that people felt he was a few years ago. His defense and offense are both just above average. What he has always been good at is running the floor, hustling, using his athleticism to get loose balls rebounds and easy buckets. He's basically like a much upgraded version of Varejao.

While we're not the run and gun system in Phoenix that showcased Marion's skills and inflated his stats, he would still get many opportunities to run the court with Lebron and get easy baskets. We would be an even better defensive and rebounding team.

Marion doesn't solve our half court offense problems or are backcourt prolbems, if anything he'll magnify them. If we get Marion we'd still need to get an upgrade at SG.

Yeah he only solves the "everyone on this team besides LBJ sucks" problem and the "nobody on this team besides LBJ could start for a contender" problem.

I don't think Marion is a good fit at all.

You know what, I think Marion would make us much better, he can rebound, score, and creates huge matchup problems at the 4. Of course he is undersized, but he has played the 4 for years in the west and has been an allstar. It would be nice for a change to see the OTHER TEAM try to match up with us rather the the other team dictating what our lineup is.

I dont know if we have the right mix of players to get him, and would rather see us get artest if possible and try to get lucky and mle JR Smith but Marion is a nice player who could run the floor with Lebron. Imagine a PF who would actually do something with the passes that usually bounce off the hands of the guys we currently have.

Very good point. Every time I saw Wally throw one of his no elevation "both my knees are shot" line drive 3's off the dribble w/ someone in his face at the end of the shot clock I wanted to puke. Please god someone come and help Lebron. Isn't Big Z the only player that should actually be starting on an NBA team?

If Marion was the last option available to us, I'd take him. However, I think that there are a lot of better moves we can make, that would make us a better team than if we just acquired Marion.

I agree, I'd much rather have Ron Artest and a lot of other players as well over Marion.

Everyone is aware Marion is a Dan Fegan client who will be a free agent next summer. I see little chance Ferry would make a trade for any Fegan client much less one who can be a FA next offseason.

Yea, I heard Fegan wants to try to get Marion 20+ mil a year. Lets go for someone with at least 2 years on a contract.

Odom would be a far better than Marion, helping Gibson and LeBron with the ball handling, scoring at a clip of 15 on a high FG% every game, and creating for others plus solid D.
