He only had to be bought-out and waived by 11:59 P.M. tonight to be eligible for the playoff roster(which he has been).

He can sign at any time, earliest he can sign is 48 hours after he's placed on waivers, so he'll likely be signed Wednesday morning and play against the Bucks Wednesday night.

Well I thought JJ looked descent tonight in ATL. He needs to improve his footwork big time.

Talk about JJ looking active against ATl. Dunks and tips at the basket, decent defense. The only blemish he had was that ball that was stolen that he didnt protect. Other than that he led the bench in scoring since nobody else didnt do anything but he played good defense on Smith, Williams and Pachulia.

JJ is ready for consistent bench minutes IMO.

That turnover he had late in the game though is why he is not quite ready for minutes in a tight playoff game. But he has made some big strides over the season.

Why is he being placed on waivers? What would happen if someone would pick him up?

He has to clear waivers to be a unrestricted free agent via CBA rules.

Teams that could claim him would be teams with big enough Traded Player Exceptions, or current cap-space.

But it's considered bad practice to claim someone with cap-space, especially in these situations, Memphis is one of the only teams with cap-space to do it and they have to reason to want Joe.

Denver has a big TPE, but it's from trading Camby to get UNDER the luxury tax...so they wont be picking up joe smith to get back into the tax.

99.9999999999999999999999999999999999% chance he's a Cav Wednesday.

It appears that LeBron wants Smith back.

MIAMI -- LeBron James remembers plenty about what Joe Smith did for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.

And that's why he wants Smith back for the stretch run this season.

The veteran forward is expected to clear waivers on Wednesday, and when that happens, James says he's hopeful that Smith comes back to the Cavaliers, for whom he averaged 8.1 points as a reserve a year ago.

"I think the short time we had with Joe was great," James said Monday night before Cleveland played in Miami. "One of the best guys, one of the best teammates I've ever had. Definitely love to have him back. We'll see what happens, but as an individual, I'd love to have him back."

Any body watching the Celts board? They are convinced they got him cause of... SAS. Too funny. I just made popcorn and am reading through their attempts to convince themselves Lebron is begging Smith to come here and that he wants to be with KG. Get in on it.

Some of those Celts fans are ridiculous... They remind me of older women on the Shopping channels who sit there and are looking to apply a ton of anti wrinkle cream on their face so they can do whatever they can to keep their youthful look...
