Signs point to Cavaliers coach Mike Brown being named NBA Coach of the Year today
by Brian Windhorst/Plain Dealer Reporter Monday April 20, 2009, 11:17 AM
CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers have called a 1:30 p.m. press conference at which it appears Mike Brown will be named NBA Coach of the Year. The league and team have refused to confirm the announcement but several sources have indicated Brown has won the honor.

If so, Brown would be just the second coach in team history to win the award after Bill Fitch in 1976. This season Brown led the Cavs to a franchise-record 66 wins, the first division title in 33 years, and the first No. 1 seed in franchise history. In February, Brown became the second coach in team history to coach in the the All-Star Game. He was also named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month three times.

He did it by creating a trust-first mantra that he showed by delegating some powers to his assistants and key veteran players. It was a risk that paid off in a massive way in the regular season.

The Cavs have a 1-0 series lead on the Detroit Pistons in their first round playoff series. Game 2 is tomorrow at 8 p.m. at The Q.

Well deserved for Coach Brown. Just the first of many season awards this team should rack up.

Congrats to coach Brown. the whole team deserves credit, from the players to the front office to the assistants. I think coach being humble and giving more responsibility to his players and coaches has been key to this great season so far. For that alone he deserves the award.

What would your reasoning be? He improved our record by 21 wins, and broke and/or tied many records.
