Vince Carter for Ben Wallace

Post#1 » by netsfan2009 » Tue Jun 2, 2009 2:18 pm

I think the playoffs have showed us that the Cavs need a few things. A second scoring option for LeBron is necessary. We all know the Nets toy with shedding salary because nobody goes to Nets games. The move to Brooklyn will not happen until June 30 at the earliest.

I think the cavs should re-explore obtaining Vince Carter. Vince is not a defensive stopper by any means. But he can get 20 ppg easily, has improved beyond the arc (38% last year), and is remarkably clutch (Not Kobe but probably top 5 in the league at the last second shot).

here is the trade:
Vince Carter for
Ben Wallace and Hickson

It works on trade checker. The Nets get another expiring contract for 2010. Won't matter because LeBron or anybody else good wont be coming to NJ. But Ratner will like it because he will save a lot of $$>

You an then trade Delonte West (and Pavlovic) for a PF perhaps. Or a sign and trade for David lee?

PG- Mo
SG- Vince
SF- LeBron
PF- David Lee
C- Z

bench (still weak)- Varejao, Gibson, ???????????

Only problems I forsee is :
1) The Cavs may not want to give the Knicks more cap space in 2010 (Pavlovic's expiring)
2) bench is still really weak You could probably get Sean Wiliams of Josh Boone from the Nets as well for depth
3) could use another shooter and PG. and someone to give LeBron a break

I don't do it because I think that the Cavs are more in need of help on the front line than the back line. Giving up 2 bigs is a killer. you can't just somehow end up with the Cavs ending up with Lee.

True.. But Ben may not play anymore (talking of retirement)... So you lose Hickson. Again, the Nets would proabbky be happy to give you Sean Williams or Josh Boone.. or Najera.. so you wouldnt really lose a front court guy in the end.

I agree you need frontline help.. but short of Zach Randolph or someone from from Charlotte (Diaw, Radmanovic, or Diop), I dont know you'd get that would help. (and the Charlotte guys all kind of stink.. at least without LBJ)

Lee may be a long shot.. but perhaps he could be had because:
1)Knicks desparate for cap $$
2) D"Anotni allaegedly doesnt like Lee (not sure why)
3)Recession-many teams may not want to spend $$

I would maybe, MAYBE consider Wallace for Carter. No way do I give up Hickson though. We can get something nice for Wallace's contract without having to add JJ Hickson.

I would still rather see us use Wallace's contract on a PF instead of a SG.

Is JJ Hickson a sticking point for New Jersey on Carter? Because if so I don't think this would happen.

Pass from New Jersey... The Nets can get all the cap space they need (if they need anymore than they're projected to have) by simply declining to pickup the team options of say Yi Jianscrub and / or waiving Dooling and his unguaranteed contract...

Cleveland would have to throw in more to get Carter.

No thanks then. VC is not a player of need, pure luxury. We have to get some help on the inside. Thanks anyway.

Probably not enough to get Carter, at least not for the start of the season. The Nets already have a hard time selling tickets. It'll be even worse if Carter is gone before the beginning of the season. If anything this is a mid season trade since the cash benefits for the Nets won't be realized until the 2010 season.

If im the Cavs, I would do it ... Putting more talent besides Lebron should be the utmost priority. Lebron can also help motivate Carter. Resign Varejo if he opts out and use the MLE on a big ... Gortat? Then try to dangle Sasha's partial gurantee/this years pick for another big? A wing rotation of Mo Williams/Carter/Delonte West is pretty amazing and Varejo/Gortat/Big Z/another player would be solid big man rotation (though it lacks offensive power) ...

Nets decline easily. The value return is weak, and we already have enough young bigmen to develop.

It certainly makes a lot of sense for Cleveland to trade Ben Wallace's expiring contract for a good player. If not Vince, who? What is Cleveland's biggest need? Another defensive center? A good power forward? Another scorer?

Need to use Ben's contract on a 4 or 5.
