Re: Varejao opts out of contract
Dagger? Good lord I would hope you're not referring to me.
Me being a Piston fan, so I have no reason to talk about over-paying? Saying CV is worth the MLE and nothing more is just plain stupid. The guy put up 16 and 6 in 27 minutes per game. You can forget about who fits our team, and who doesn't, as of right now our team has no identity. Our leader is Rodney Stuckey. Whether he can fill that role or not remains to be seen.
I am in no way claiming Detroit is anything more then a 6-5 seed in the east, but you'd have to be blind in order to think AV even comes close to matching CV's talent.
AV is a must keep player for the Cav's, for 3-4 million dollars. He has no offense, he's an good man defender, and a decent rebounder. He is an above average (by a little) post defender. Just because he's able to get underneath players skin doesn't mean he's worth a multi year deal for 42 million. Other then that he's decent in some areas, better in others, not good, or great in any of them.
You ask 100 knowledgeable NBA fans whether we overpaid for C.V and 95 of them will say no.
Everyone outside of the Cav's thinks you overpaid. I just don't want Lebron to leave you guys. I would love for him to stay in our division so I can watch him as often as possible. I don't think he's going to stay when you're handing out money to no bodies.

^^ It was LeBron's idea to resign him.

I'm not denying the fact that it was a good signing. I am saying I don't think he had any offers close to that, and if he did, it was from one idiotic GM.
I don't think he could have got that number (or anything close to that number) from any other team in the league. Very few teams even showed interest in him.

You realize his offer falls in line with that of a full Mid-Level contract, right?
I guarantee you there are plenty of teams who would have given him the MLE. The Cavs gave him the MLE, but tacked on one more unguaranteed year and attached incentives(which, if he hits, will probably make him worth every penny of the 50 million)

Those incentives, btw, include him making the all star game.... I think its fair to say he wont be achieving that, and if he does then he will be worth every penny of what we are paying him.

Just wanted to say thank you to Varejao's agent as a Knicks fan. He's a good player, good defense, and hustle and gets those offensive rebounds..

Yeah but look at the other players who could be had for the MLE.
Ron Artest signed for the MLE for crying out loud. The economy is crap right now. He will never be worth every penny of 50 million, or 42 million. He simply doesn't contribute enough to demand that type of money. Again, if you think he's a better player then Big Baby, or Brandon Bass, then that's you. I can't neccesarily take that away from you. But if you're looking for talent per dollar, both of those players would have been much options IMO.
Either way you guys are still contenders. I think adding a young player like Big Baby could have solidified your chances.

I know you didn't, you paid him more then that.
Which is horribly sad.

Re: Varejao opts out of contract
The truth is though, yes, the Cavs paid more than the MLE. But that meant they still were able to use the MLE on some further depth. Which is very good from the angle of trying to win a championship this year. The long term prospects aren't as great. But as a Pistons fan myself, I would personally love to see the ownership of my team be willing to dip deep into the luxury tax in order to bring a title to D-Town. The dedication of the ownership is a big thing.
Chris Bosh is blossoming at the right time. For my fantasy basketball team.

I question whether some posters (mostly non-Cavs fans) actually read every post in this thread before writing down what they think.

Why 6 f'ing years. I remember when Z got 5, damn. Ferry is in love with slow big white guys. I wish it was a S & T for a better player. Even a head case. I'm not happy.

Have you not read any of these hundred posts? 1)The general consensus is that everyone loves his contract and believes he'll be an All Star. 2) No, Andy will back up Christian Eyenga. Have your 5,858 other posts been this BRILLIANT?
