LBJ Cle vs. Ny-oddsmakers edition

Post#1 » by rickbrunson » Tue Aug 18, 2009 2:08 am

Lebron knows that he will have basically the same record with either team right now. That will change if we can dump Jeffries and/or Curry, freeing up space for a second max FA.

It all comes down to Lebron business-wise (def leans toward Knicks, much bigger $$$ in a much bigger market) vs Lebron heart-wise (def leans Cleveland, hometown). For those of you who doubt he will earn much more in NY, you are nuts. NY, like LA and CHI, are international cities that have much more influence on a global scale. Its no secret that despite being a virtual pariah after his rape trial and lacking the positive image that Lebron has, Kobe was by far the most popular player at the Olympics, due to being the best major-market player. Jordan was dominant commercially in CHI, letting him achieve worldwide success. Same reason we remember Magic a lot more than we remember Bird, even though they were equally good. For better or worse, LBJ seems to be in business mode in his career so far (meeting with buffett and so on).

To me, if LBJ takes the Cavs to a title he is definitely leaving for New York, I think he feels he is indebted to Cleveland for a championship and can move on once he has. He might have a better chance of staying if he doesn't get it done this year, ironically.

Playing oddsmakers PTI-style:

75% chance he stays in Cle if he loses this year and both teams stay the same
50% chance he stays in Cle if he wins this year and both teams stay the same
50% chance he stays in Cle if he loses this year and Knicks pick up another MAX plyr
25% chance he stays in Cle if he wins this year and the Knicks pick up another MAX plyr

What do the Cleveland fans think? and please be objective as possible.

100% chance that this thread is stupid as hell and gets locked up ASAP.
