Are we done?

Post#1 » by Amon_Ones88 » Fri Aug 14, 2009 7:07 pm

I realize we dont really have any money left so I was just wondering if anyone had heard anything or has any guess if our Cavs' will make any other moves or changes. I am pretty content with this off season.

I read that Ferry is still considering either Joe Smith or Rob Kurz. Also he is bringing in a PG into camp - Russell Robinson - who played for the ORL summer league squad.

So I think we will add either a 3rd PG or another big before camp.

ugh no more bigs - not enough minutes!

A 3rd PG would be OK though....

Cavs could still use a starting PF

Cleveland got better.

Shaq > Ben Wallace, Lorenzen
Moon > Wally
Parker > Pavlovic
Powe (healthy) > Joe Smith
Green ? Kinsey

Hopefully, Green can be better than Kinsey.

Oh, but the Cavs chemistry is supposed to have gotten worse since they've brought in new players. I guess the Cavs chemistry last year was worse as well since the Cavs did just about the exact same thing then as well.

Well, Kurz and that one 6'11 C and Russell Robinson all got invited and training camp contracts.

Powe's signed...

I think that Danny Green will be signed soon, likely for 3 years in a similar contract to Darnell Jackson with the rest of our MLE.

That leaves us with pretty much a full roster...the 15th spot will be fought for by Kurz and the othr training camp invitees.

We still have the BAE, although at this point I think it's a safe bet that Ferry saves that for later in the season when teams out of contention buy-out serviceable veterans that we might have a use for. For now, JJ will probably get most of the back-up PF minutes, and Darnell/Kurz could compete for some of those minutes depending on how well/bad JJ plays.

Then we'll continue to monitor Powe's recovery and hopefully get him back on the court sometime in February or March to give him 6-8 weeks of game-time to get ready for the playoffs, and depending on the play of the sophmores(JJ, DJ), you could see Powe move into the back-up PF role, or you could see JJ even possibly move to the starter role and Andy move to "supersub role", but that's only if JJ makes remarkable progress.

71 days till opening night!

Why didn't you resign Joe Smith?

We offered him the same contract he got from the Hawks. Apparently he thought he could get more playing time in ATL than he could get here. He was almost certaintly correct in that assumption as well.

Yeah I was a little disappointed we lost Joe but thinking about it, we really need to give JJ a legit shot at some PT. If Ferry brought Joe Smith back you can be sure Mike Brown would bury JJ on the bench.

Now Ferry forced his hand to consider giving minutes to either JJ or DJ while Powe is out recovering. So if JJ can shine in training camp/pre-season, he will get a chance to get that 4th big man role.

If he shows some potential, it also ups his trade value..

It kind of hurts to see Smith leave... Would have been great to see him back with us. Right now, we have to rely on the return of Powe, Hickson, and DJ.
