SLAM's Top 50 - No 1: LeBron James

The ballots were cast, counted, and a victor has been decided.

LeBron Raymone James is now the best player in basketball.

There, that was easy. Or was it?

It certainly appears to be a concise and declarative statement. But as with almost all other things regarding the great debate, this too is subject to interpretation.

What exactly is now? Just this very moment, as in right now? These present times and the foreseeable future, as in nowadays? Perhaps something tentative or undefined, as in now and again?

LeBron Raymone James is the best player in basketball. But he has to win.

Now.

SLAM is about as reputable as the National Enq.

He's been the best player for 3-4 years now?, smh, LBJ has been for a year, and is on his way to #2. The thing with LBJ is he's fully aware of stats is as concerned about them as he is about winning the game. Stats are secondary to hall of famers it's always wins first.

He's the most gifted athlete I've personally ever witnessed, but the best bball player ? Maybe. The best athlete in the NBA? Yes, and likely in the world? Yes.

His defensive blocks are the sickest thing in the NBA right now, but his offensive game is the highest form of athletisism, not so much a skill, dude is gifted far above anyone else it's not even close. So many great pros work for everything, he just has to roll outta bed, show up and he's already the best athlete on the court by a mile. He just jumps higher, dribbles faster, runs faster with and without the ball, has the fastest first step, etc all at a huge 6-8, just sick. Alien-like, out of this world gifts.
