Offer T-Mac the MLE
I posed the possibility of T-Mac accepting Cleveland's MLE, once Lebron re-signed, in the Knicks forum, but it was quickly deleted. This is not an unlikely scenario. New York can only offer their BLE, not MLE since they are under the cap, and I doubt they would use any of their cap-space to re-sign him. Meanwhile, T-Mac would probably rather take more money and play with a contender than take the Knick's BLE and remain in a dismal situation. It would not be a bad move for the Cavs. There would be no long term risks, and this move would temporarily fill the void at SG until we find a suitable long term replacement. Plus, it would feel good to behold the irony of the moment by stealing a Knicks' player.

Lets see how he holds up, who else is left on the market, and see what our status looks like.

I think I may go Manu and Ray Allen before TMac depending on who is left on the table at that point.

Since we are talking about next season, I would hold onto the MLE and give Danny Green more minutes.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Before the 3 way, I was interested in bringing him in. But now I'd just like to see him rot in New York and continue to get eliminated in the first round.

Re: Offer T-Mac the MLE
If the Knicks don't get LeBron they aren't going to get two max guys.
-28yo, injury plagued Wade isn't going to leave $30M guarenteed money on the table to go to NY.
-If Bosh leaves Toronto (and LeBron isn't in NY) then it makes far more sense for him to go to Miami.
-Its also unlikely Joe Johnson would pass up guarenteed money to leave a better team even if Bosh was there.
If they can land one of them then they can still give TMac a one year deal (maybe $7M) to beat the MLE offers and keep flexibilty for 2011 if they want to go after Melo or Yao.

One interesting thing is that he already rejected a 4 year 60 million dollar offer. Maybe he just didn't want to sign before the season but that is interesting. I don't know if he is expecting the max from a team, but it's odd that he could have wrapped this entire situation up.

He has a player option next year, surely he will pick that up. However I do believe the Cavs should try and make a signing like that is a situation presents itself.
As far as signing McGrady, I'm not sure. At the moment he really looks done. He can play a great half, but once halftime happens it appears that his body gets all stiff and he barely comes off the bench. His trainer said that he was good to go, we see how false that statement was.

Re: Offer T-Mac the MLE
I'm leaning towards him not wanting to sign before the season so he could see how it played out. As you know, it's played out really well, heh. There really aren't any teams with cap space who would provide a better situation though. Outside of Bibby, they're a really young team with a bright future, but they can still contend now....why leave that to go to a worse Knicks/Nets team?Manhattan Project wrote:tidho wrote:-Its also unlikely Joe Johnson would pass up guarenteed money to leave a better team even if Bosh was there.

The Knicks don't really have any future and the Nets do, but it's years away. Johnson isn't 25, he probably doesn't want to wait for the Nets to develop. The Bulls could be another threat to Atlanta's chances, but surely Wade is going to be their #1 target in the off-season....though JJ going there could make sense.

Nothing to do with the Knicks, just merely pointing out that he is probably the only FA that is coming up in 2010 that didn't have a player option and his team tried to extend him publicly. I agree with the whole he wanted to see how things played out scenario though.
I didn't imply that OH he didn't sign it because he was going here or there.

Why? T-mac doesn't bring anything to the table for the Cavs..
I think people wanna see T-Mac end up with LeBron just to see him finally get out of the 2nd round, for nostalgic purposes.

Re: Offer T-Mac the MLE
it would be just the Cavs' luck that they pick up T-Mac with the MLE next year and 10 games into the season and he goes down with a season ending injury....I can see it now.

Again all this takes is a little common sense to see why he rejected it..knick fans seems to lack that or ignore it , to try and make it more plausible for a player to sign them.....first he did reject 4 years 60 mill but you would have to if you know you can get 80 mil -99 mill on a 5 year deal ..thats to big a difference to pass up....the very least he will get 80 mil and if gets the max its 110 ...........again use common sense...do you wrap it up early or do you get the additional 20-40 mill..this isnt even close

Re: Offer T-Mac the MLE
How many season has T-Mac played more then 70 games? He has played for 12 season and only 6 of those seasons has he play mored then 70 games, 3 other seasons that he played were less then 50 games, out of the 13 season the he has been with the NBA 6 of those season have been have been less then 70 games.
