This really sucks. Oden is easy to root for, yet some national guys love to rip him for being hurt. I get that he was chosen instead of Durant, and KD is a future MVP, but it just blows that he will now be labeled a bust. He was put in a great situation in Portland, and could have been the guy to put them over the hump. Here's to Oden staying strong and putting in the work to get back in the game again.

Oden was awesome when he was healthy, but now he's out another entire season. No point to take a gamble like that.

I think there will be some serious reservations around the league about handing this guy a contract, especially if the CBA tightens the cap (as expected). Haven't fact checked this, but I someone on the radio said he'll now finish his 4th season having played a total of 82 games.

Big Z type turn arounds don't happen very often. I wish him the best and would even be willing to take a chance on him, but his next contract is more likley to finish some GM's career than it is to make it.

No matter what the CBA is, the minimum contracts will be there, teams have to fill out rosters, etc.

I would take the risk on Oden. Though he was injured even at Ohio State...so it's unlikely he will ever hold up over an 82 game schedule + playoffs long term.

I'd still take him though given the upside potential.

Most likely true, in some form or another. The point is he's a RFA. Portland will keep him for a vet min offer.
I'm saying there is good reason to be hesitant about an offer high enough to make Portland not match it.

Portland's President hinted very strongly in a recent interview that Blazers will offer Oden a Qualifying Offer. That's $8.8 million guaranteed for one season.

I really doubt it is in any team's best interest to offer him more than that.
