first preseason game

Post#1 » by throwd » Sat Dec 17, 2011 1:59 am

So far the CAVs are looking okay, I know we are playing the Pistons, but Irving is lookimg good! He has had a few good defensive plays and his offense has been pretty good! He has shown a good crossover move as well as a great jumper. Hopefully a sign of good things to come! Knock on wood of course, being a clevlenad fan haha

He did look really good on defense, extremely quick on his feet and good at changing directions on a dime...he also is a beast at getting to the line. The fact that he had an off shooting night and still scored 21 on his first game, which he admitted he had nerves before, is a great sign. You can certainly tell that both he and TT were very nervous/anxious, and improved as the game went on. I was very pleased with how hard Irving was trying on defense though, it was a very good sign of things to come. Now lets see him develop a nice go to pick and roll with TT, and start racking up assists...so glad we get to watch a nice matchup of Irving vs Knight in the preseason.

Look fellas, its pretty obvious you can't draft Anthony Davis with Tristan on the team. I know Davis is the hot name but let's be serious here, Cavs need pieces that fit each other, not redundant talents who share the same skillset. My Big Board is coming soon.

Let's think BIG.

I listened on the radio unilt Chones' man crush became intollerable.

I was suprised Irving didn't have more assists. The way they called the game it sounded like he was facilitating a lot more.

Not having seen it I'm curious abouot Tristan's foul trouble. Whether it was just jitters or something that could become problamatic. Nice to see him getting a couple blocks in the second half.

Not suprisingly they had trouble scoring much given they were going uptempo so much.

OT: I agree with steely, if/when you don't take Anthony Davis. There will be comparable talents that fit better with what you've got. Drummond, Lamb, Barnes....we'll see where they end up shaking out. We need to actually earn that top 5 pick first too. Hopefully Coach intends to limit Irving's minutes, lol.

The speed of the game a little too fast for him and he was late rotating on D. He did alot better in the second half, got on the offense boards amd even put the ball on the floor from 16 feet out for a two hand jam. He also got an offensive rebound and went of QUICK for a two hand flush. Don't listen to people who says this guy can't play. I'm sure you'll be able to tell, as you know yhe game.

Thompson in the second quarter looked invisible, mostly due to a bunch of BS fouls. I thought they were really bad calls. He hardly got the ball in the 2nd.

In the 4th he showed off his wicked first step quiet a lot. He will be able to beat just about any PF off the dribble. Also his play style will draw LOTs of fouls, so he needs to improve his free throw shooting big time. If he hits 70% of his free throws he can be special.

Irving was just relentless. He had total command and put a ton of pressure on the defense without being selfish. He threw some bad passes in the second though.

I was kinda more concerned about Derrick Williams game today, since you know, a good % of people suggested taking him 1st and then some of other PGs at 4th.

14 points 1 rebound, our choice seems sound for now.

^I saw the game with Derrick Williams, he showed great range and athletic ability but he is a bit of a tweener, not really a PF but has some perimeter skills - I think he will ultimately play SF in the league. Minnesota actually looked decent though.

As for the Cavs watching the 2nd game now, Irving I want to see continue to push the pace. It's interesting watching him go up against Brandon Knight. Not a huge fan of him coming off the bench, would prefer to see him get the reigns right away but I understand what Scott is trying to do keeping him humble.

Close loss to a bad team....we've gotten exactly what I wanted out of the preseason. Coach Scott, the team is ready. :P
