Draft Ratings. From the Experts.

Post#1 » by zol2332 » Fri Jun 29, 2012 6:58 pm

A thread to throw down some draft grades as they begin to roll in.

Let's start with Sam Amick of SI.com.

From Marc Spears of Yahoo: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--nba-draft-2012--winners-and-losers.html;_ylt=AmxLAIx7O2.NafTyy8YN0mO8vLYF

He's spot on about Houston too. The locals here in H-Town make kiwibrindle seem ecstatic with the Cavs by comparison.

Ha. Very true. Maybe they'd be willing to send one of those forwards our way....

Not to sidetrack the thread, but the prevailing wisdom seems to be the Rockets are trying to package either Jones or White (the rookies) with Kyle Lowry and either Scola or Patterson to land a big, be it Gasol, Howard, or someone else.

Just thinking out loud, but I'd offer Varejao for White or Jones and see what happens.

Back to the thread topic:
Listened to Mad Dog radio for a bit this afternoon and the host loved the Cavs taking Waiters, said he was the best pure scorer in the Big East the last two years. He was not so high on Zeller, doesn't think he can play.

Pretty generous grading. C+ was the worst given...

I've been a big fan of T Jones' since last year when he was supposed to enter the draft. And who doesn't like Royce White? A 270 pound dude grabbing rebounds and going coast to coast and dunking it? I'd like to have him for the entertainment if nothing else. I'm not so enthused about Zeller (though I love the Waiters pick) but if we can swing a deal with the Rockets, I'd be pretty happy.

I think you guys did an awesome job in the draft. I feel like theres a lot of hate for Zeller aroud here but between Andy Tristan & Tyler you guys have a nice trio of bigs. Another post scorer idk how good Samuels is in the post but you guys really are filling out your roster nicely. Kyrie & Dion will be chaos for other backcourts & with 3 good bigs now, looking to see a strong playoff push from you guys.

I too am more positive about the Cavs draft after studying it from a stats and popular media view of sexier picks like Harrison Barnes who Kings fans are not that thrilled with taking him at #7. I am kind of leaning towards the Sporting News draft grade for the Cavs as follows:

Cleveland

Picks: (4) Dion Waiters, SG; (17) Tyler Zeller, C

Grade: B+

Outlook: If the draft were a craps table, consider Waiters $5,000 on a hard eight and Zeller 10 bucks on the pass line. One’s a gamble, one’s a safe bet. It was a surprise that Zeller was still around at No. 17, and the only way this would have been better for the Cavs would have been if they’d traded back for Waiters.
