Info on the LAL pick next year (swap)?

Post#1 » by fart » Wed Jun 27, 2012 1:04 am

I understand we have the right to swap the MIA pick next year with the Lakers pick. my question is: is there any protection on the swap? let's say kobe and bynum get injured or traded and the lakers fall into the lottery, could we still swap the MIA pick with their lotto pick?

2013 first round draft pick from L.A. Lakers
Cleveland has the right to swap the least favorable of their own 2013 1st round pick, Miami's own 2013 1st round pick (top-10 protected) and Sacramento's own 2013 1st round pick (top-13 protected) with the L.A. Lakers own 2013 first round pick (top-14 protected). If the L.A. Lakers own 2013 first round pick is #1-#14, then the L.A. Lakers' obligation to Cleveland shall be extinguished. [Cleveland-L.A. Lakers, 3/15/2012]

I thought I read that there was no lotto protection at all actually.

Lakers' own 2013 first round pick. [Cleveland - Lakers, 3/15/2012] Note: some other NBA sites (such as RealGM) list that the Lakers 2013 first round pick is lottery-protected (which would cancel the Cavs' ability to swap if the Lakers dropped into the lottery). Other sources have previously informed RCF that the Lakers pick is not lottery-protected.

So no one knows. Strange.

Well according to the Nash reports the Lakers traded this pick to the Suns. I'm not sure how that works though, most likely it's not that pick, but if it is, will the Suns just get your pick if the Lakers should perform worse then Mia and you, a pick swap with implications for 4 franchises

i would assume we would just have the option of swapping with the suns if the lakers record is worse than miami's.

kind of sucks that this trade will likely cost the cavs about 5-7 draft slots but it is what it is

The Suns would get Miami's pick in your scenario.

The Suns' own pick doesn't matter.

If the Lakers' record is worse than Miami's, we get the Lakers' pick and the Suns get the Heat's pick.
