how will our rep change if Dion/Tristan pan out.

Post#1 » by IMHO » Thu Feb 28, 2013 11:16 am

Our organization is viewed as inept due to lebron leaving then winning on his new team, Gilbert's letter, overly bad picks in early 00s, and unorthodox picks in Tristan/Dion when we passed on more popular players both times.

But, if these picks pan out & end up looking genius in retrospect, much like Westbrook/Harden picks were, does that change public opinion of our organization, or does the "Cleveland hate" continue, finding some other excuse.

Somewhat agree, but I can't say all of that Cleveland bashing pleases me.

Of course once we're back to being a contending team, we'll have bunch of band wagoners again.

No reason to assume that any of the idiots bashing the Cavs know what the heck they are talking about. No matter what they will speak negatively about the team, it's what they do. To be honest, the Cavs have a great record with later picks, unfortunately many of those picks ended up panning out for other teams.

People love to kick us when we're down and hate us when we're great.

Worst part is that the media doesn't help.

I hope that Zeller is better than them, especially since Waiters is going to be a good player.

I think you guys have good prospects and a good bright future. I'm from Toronto, and our sports team gets no respect because of the city they play in similar to you guys. I know nothing about cleveland, but people always say its absolutely terrible, however I'm sure it is just as good as the other cities and they have tourist spots and nice city areas, and places to visit.

The future is bright because of Irving, great cap flexibility and young assets, but if you expect Waiters and Thompson to pan out as All Stars... you have lose your mind.

They'll be useful for this team, but not at that level.

Thompson is great, I love his game, but he lacks an offensive game for be at that level and also his explosiveness is avg.

Waiters is a good scorer, he'll be more efficient, but his IQ is questionable, his defense is going to be bad his whole career because he's small and slow, and on the offensive side, while he has a nack for the basket and scoring, he lacks elite athleticism to be at that level.

I think he'll be a 6th man for his career, similar to Crawford, Mayo, BGordon, LWilliams, maybe slightly better, but not an All Star, maybe he could be an All Star in a team that relies a lot on him, but where is that kind of team going? lottery every year.

The FO needs to pick well this year, Noel is an easy one, and then grab a elite role player, Bullock would be awesome, and draft&stash eurotalent for the future.

2014 FA is big.

Man, your scouting is terrible on this one Fischella.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I'd say Toronto is a lot more desireable place to live than Cleveland for an NBA athlete...

lol, Toronto is a beautiful city full of exquisite things that the average self centered 23 year old likely won't give a damn about. Cleveland on the other hand is in the United States. USA! USA!

I think Thompson and Waiters have escaped the 'bust' label. Even if there are arguably better guys that could have been selected, they aren't viewed (by many) as mistakes. I think you can see that influence on the current draft discussion - it isn't automatically assumed Cleveland is going to take the wrong guy, and even if they're percieved to reach they'll get a little benefit of the doubt.

Toronto is a big city so it has the advantages that all big cities have however it's biggest detraction to a young weathly NBA player is that it is in Canada and that is huge. Sure Cleveland lost Lebron, but Toronto has lost every decent player that they've ever had to free agency and that's largely because it is in Canada.

Fischella's scouting is almost always terrible.

You would think posters on this forum would have a little glimpse into the mind of an average young NBA free agent. Most don't like cold and think Canada is a third world country, when do you have players bypassing more money to go to Toronto or Cleveland?

Just because you (and most of us on this site) understand that Toronto isn't a dump doesn't make the average NBA player see that.
