Clarkson stuns the league...vote

Clarkson has the tools to be a much better player in this system than we have witness'd in the past,
what do you think the chances are he stuns the league and is the next Oladipo?

No he’s a bum with low IQ and he’s significantly less physically gifted than dipo

Yeah an oladipo leap is pretty unlikely...but he isn't a bum imo at all.(definitely was a bad fit in the pace we used last year) I think he will get plenty of opportunities to score probably as the 1st option on the 2nd unit to start the season. Other than Love and Hood there is no one more skilled at scoring than Clarkson on this roster so sky is the limit on what he can achieve.

I dont see the tools. He is a marginal athlete cant break down good defenders. Decent size for a combo guard but nothing that wow's you. His shooting is erratic. He dribbles with his head down. His limit will always be a volume shooter off the bench nothing more.

Again, for the most part those assessments are the average opinion of him, all he has done well consistently in a vacuum is as a microwave scorer off the bench, but his offensive craftiness and ability to make difficult shots is still improving a lot. Yes teams often put their high level defenders on him which should tell you something and it has limited his effectiveness overall, but to suggest he cannot get his shot against most defenders is not accurate imo.
The biggest problem that hurts his game in most peoples eyes is when he forces a shot he knows he can make but misses it people think the right choice was to pass because they expect most players to miss those shots. When he makes them they think he got lucky...nope he makes tough shots. Ask anyone on the Cavs roster and they will tell you his arsenal is unlimited.

The making of this thread was to determine if the general opinion of JC was unchanged from last season...it appears in limited scope that that is the case.
He is an elite level scoring guard who is not a great floor general or catch and shoot off guard. It's tough for players like Clarkson to find a place in a normal system unless they are microwave scorers off the bench...that being said the scrutiny about what he lacks in those departments has killed his on court value to purists of old overused systems. This is the perfect time for him to explode.
This kid which he still is btw has the ability to take over a game and in this system where we have no stars and are playing at a fast pace there is no way somebody who can score like Clarkson won't find a better situation to achieve. Whether he does or not depends on him, but it also depends on Lue.
I expect his averages to go way up at minimum

Trying to post an article on his preseason PERs and his teammates acknowledging his off season improvements. Basically he's almost posting triple-doubles per 36. Of course it'll be a bloated stat but I do think he deserves more PT (multiple bursts so his activity is still there).

And Korver was quoted that Clarkson "has hardly been stopped in practice".

He strikes me as the type of player who will have great games against weaker defenses and bench units but will struggle against good defensive teams. It helps that he keeps his head up now but he still over dribbles. He might up his game to poor man's Kyrie instead of homeless Kyrie.

I'm nervous about him playing alongside Sexton off the bench for this reason. It could turn into a Kyrie/Waiters back court off the bench.

He is what he will be for the rest of his career. He can make decent reads off of pick and rolls but struggles reading advanced defenses, he'll take a lot of questionable shots especially in the mid-range and a mediocre shooter from 3.

There was a period in his rookie season when he looked like a gem in the rough attacking the basket constantly, drawing FTs or making drive and kick plays. Then he started settling for mid-range heavy shot selection with poor basketball IQ and zero defensive instinct.

He is already proving he up'd his game in the offseason.

I'd like him to get more playing time though. Him starting could lead to another Rodney Hood drama and could mean fewer touches for Cedi.
