He needs to take more three point shots when he's being defended like. Pull the defender further out. No one even bothers to go over picks anymore.

Also, he needs to give effort on defense when things aren't going well offensively because tonight was ridiculous.

when your leading scorer is passing up open threes and just standing there with the ball not driving it which is what I saw it screams he is being coached to do that , to not shoot until he has looked for cutters and higher % shots...problem is that takes him completely out of his rhythm when nobody is cutting and he just dumps it off to another player standing in the corner just as much if not more than being dt'd when he drives for a high % floater and has no clear outlet to pass too when he doesnt shoot which he hasnt been nearly as much lately. imo there are way too many changes going on to how defenses are playing him and way too much shuffling of responsibilities on this roster to expect much to go well when the players that are taking shots are missing them. DG and Cedi were 2-10 from deep and Sexton and Prince were only slightly better 4 for 9. DG found teammates with good looks and got some dimes but other than that neither guard played well enough. JBB needs to put Dotson back in the damn line up.
Garland was 7-12, 17 points, and 9 assists. He was definitely not the problem.

Colin was 6-18. The problem wasn't that he was deferring. The problem was that he played a really good defensive team and he played them the same way he plays everyone else.

Sexton definitely has adjustments to make but when dg is 1 of 5 from deep hes not demanding attention away from the paint any better than Okoro or Cedi and when Sexton isnt taking more than 4 3pt attempts opting to pass to teamates with a lesser quality shot it looks like hes either lost confidence in his shot or is moving the ball more despite it not being the optimal choice. But definitely the plan from the coaches. If dg isnt going to hunt for 3s and make 3s ,Sexton has too.

The problem is Sexton is not a good passer to begin with and he dribbles himself into trouble where it's very difficult for him to get the ball back out of the paint without turning it over. The decision to pass needs to come sooner. If three defenders are converging on him, two of his teammates are unguarded. He needs to the see the help defenders committing and make the decision to give up the ball when that happens. Everyone's scouted his tendencies so they know he's either going to shoot or try to pass to whatever big is there so they're playing him with multiple defenders and taking away that angle. Also, over dribbling against defenders like Middleton and Jrue is a very bad idea.

Cedi forced bad shots last night but it's not as though they were missed assist opportunities from Sexton. He just didn't play within his game. Cedi is a good catch-and-shoot three point shooter from 3 when he's stationary. But if he's trying come around a curl or pull up 3 at full sprint like Curry/Korver, he's going to brick that shot.

yeah IO think its far more complex than dribbling into trouble, and more about a lack of communication around him. If anything he isn't anticipating the changes that have been coming yet. Right now cedi is a complete waste of Windlers minutes and yeah there are times when Cedi shoots the 3 well off the dribble and off of picks and has a decent % when catching and shooting sort of but seems to be most reliable when he takes a one dribble pull up not just a catch and release regardless of if he is stationary. He rarely makes the on the move triples though so I can understand the thought process. DG & Sexton cannot co exist with defenses now harping Sexton too easily and letting DG try to beat them

Garland went to the bench late in the third, Sexton came in, and the Bucks went on a 14-3 run last night. Sexton's problem isn't Garland. Sexton's problem is he's been scouted and the next stage of his development involves him doing things that don't come naturally.

whatever the case in this game where he sucked hard was the exception to the rule and yeah he is still going to be overcoming hurdles and mountains people don't expect him to climb I'm sure. My problem with the pairing is the coaching is clearly relying way too much on its lottery picked players as starters for long term development still which is not always the best route to developing properly and probably not at this point esp if they actually are trying to win games. Both need to be rotating in and out of the game and not seeing the floor together as neither is good for the other. I disagree DG's lack of defense isnt a big factor despite his effort kills them when Sexton isn't playing good defense either at the same time.Sexton had less to do with that run than several other factors but whatever helps your argument I guess smh You have to see an advantage in playing Dotson but it seems he is given scrub minutes at this point which is a real head scratcher

I think Collin is playing banged up; but going up against Holliday and the Bucks' defense was going to be a challenge either way.

Playing well .vs. bad defensive teams is a nice step for our guards, but nobody has "arrived" until they can get the job done against tough opponents in contested games.

Didn't he roll his ankle early on against the Bucks in the first game and played through it? Might still be tender and feeling a little loose.

But yeah the Bucks are just a bad match-up for the Cavs in general since they play with 2 seven footers at all times and have hard nosed defensive guards like Holliday to make it difficult for our guards.

If Sexton is playing hurt that might explain his hesitations, but it is absolutely stupid for this org to overplay him if he is, and should be inserting Dotson who was really efficient for us when Sexton was out.

They will often leave it up to the player when it's simply a matter of pain tolerance and they don't believe playing can make things worse ... albeit it's not always that simple due to overcompensation.

That doesn't change the fact that a team like the Bucks was going to be a major challenge, regardless, it just becomes another hurdle. Playing through pain and still playing at a high-level is very hard. To this day, most fans reject that LeBron ever had an elbow injury back in the 2010 playoffs in spite of a medical diagnosis. They point out how well he played in certain games as negating that the elbow could have contributed to his struggles in other games.

Sexton basically has not been good since the Nets games. He is clearly a step slow too me, nto too mention the uptick in defensive attention after the win against the Nets in their debut etc but it's the hesitating to shoot an open 3 of late that makes me think he is being instructed to pass them up or he is just not confident for the same reason being hurt enough to impact his % with good reason and should opt to wait it out in the name of winning by allowing somebody fully healthy like Dotson to step up again instead of stinking it up. I have never been a fan of orgs demanding players play or players being to stubborn to accept reality when it comes to injuries.
I would force him to sit for a couple games of the road trip if he stinks it up again against the Suns assuming it is him wanting to play no matter what and not the org pushing for his production even without being able to play his game efficiently for a number of factors.
