Laker fan, how do you guys like Bynum? Him and Irving would be a good duo.

I know Mike Brown likes Varajao, would you add Thompson? This years 1st? 2 1sts?

Hell no. Bynum is great, but his attitude needs some serious work. I've never seen a dude that big look so passive and complacent after losing a playoff series... and not only that, but when they did go to him against Perkins, he often struggled to get good post position. Add to that TT was a promising rookie and AV is our second best player, and I gotta say no from all angles... Bynum's ridiculous salary doesn't help either

Thanks for the laugh. I needed it.

welcome.
teamCHItown wrote:You guys seriously wouldn't want to do Brewer plus #29 for #24? Is it that you think you can get a notably better player at 24 than 29 or that you simply don't want Brewer this year at 4.3 mil? Don't you guys only have like 26 mil on the books next year for 5 players? It's gonna be hard to spend the tens of millions required to get up to the team minimum without overpaying. This gives you a pretty young elite wing defender to back up the 2 and 3 spots with only a one year commitment. He plays as hard as anyone and within the team concept.

You wouldn't seriously want to do #34 for Brewer plus #29? You could draft a player who plays as hard as anyone and within the team concept at #34!

My guess is that the conversation went something like:

Magic call Cavs: We'll give you Dwight Howard for Anderson Varejao and the #3 pick.
Cavs replied: You're kidding right?
Magic call Nets: We were just on the phone with Cleveland talking about the #3 pick and Varejao; how about Lopez and 3 non-consecutive 1st round picks... since we like you better and Howard wants to be there...

Seriously though, my guess is that it depends on what drives Howard. If he wants to be a hero or if he wants to party like one. Cleveland gives him the opportunity to do what neither Shaquille O'Neal nor Lebron James could do... and Kyrie + TT would be the best supporting cast he has had to date, and of course. Will never happen though...

We have a ton to offer for him actually, but thats only if he would agree to sign here long term of course, which Im nearly positive he wouldnt.

My guess is the pricetag would be something like:
Tristan, Varejao, a bunch of our picks, and for us to eat some huge salaries (QRichardson, Big Baby Davis, etc...)

Lets remember that this is an iBob rumor though.

IMO, the Cavs could be a team helping to facilitate a deal between either the Lakers or Nets--- not a destination for Dwight.

It is simply leverage. Cavs have the most assets IMO of any team in the NBA right now. You have a potential top 3 pick and another pick in this years draft. Tristan Thompson, a #4 pick last year, AV who is a decent player on a decent contract, two picks in 2013 and possibly a third depending on what Sacto does. And you have capspace to absorb bad contracts.

I agree with the mention of the Cavs as a suitable trade partner with regards to the Nets. That's actually absolutely correct in that the Cavs would like to compete without giving up too many assets and a wild guess would be that they would rather do it with a two year contract that merely fills out their salary obligations rather than 4-5 year deals to some really crappy players.

Any suggestions on a Gasol deal for cap space? We did it with Walton we can figure something out again.

How about #4 for #2 and the bloody carcass of Lasagna Flop. The Bobcats, owned by Mr. Crabs, save some more of 'me money" and the Cavs get MKG. The Wiz probably wouldn't take Drummond anyways, and we know Jordan will get a hard on for him.

Its only money. I'd be all for that.

Anderson Varejao, #24, and Sac Rights to Houston for #14 and #16.

Houston gets the Center they sorely need and they have little interest in adding two rookies to their rotation.

I'd even be willing to add both seconds to that. 4, 14, 16 plus next year having ours plus heat 1sts with a Laker's swap.... can't sign and keep them all fellas. Trade 14 and 16 for 8 from Toronto, who's willing to deal.

Coming away with Barnes and Lamb, or Beal/Barnes would be magical....

I feel Varejao is fair value for the 14th pick, but the Sacramento pick could end up being a gem, and I see no reason to trade it along with another late first for the 16th pick.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I have no idea why people seem to want to just toss Varejao or even our 24th pick into deals. I seriously doubt we will make a trade unless it is beneficial to us, and most of these are not.

It's not about tossing anything in, it's about long-term ROI. Varejao is getting older and his playing style lends him to a higher injury risk. Thompson was high on the board because his style resembles Varejao. Our two best bigs bring the same skill-set to the table. If you cam trade him for Leonard or Henson you do it. If Varejao stays and is resigned, he projects as your third big, first off the bench, backing up both positions.

+1

Given the high salary most good big men are being paid now... Varejao's ROI will be just fine over the life of his contract. Oh, I am not against trading AV--- just not in favor of the throwing him in any deal as filler basically which is what I am reading occasionally.

What about Andy and Tristan to Portland for the 6 and 11? I think we would have to sweeten it some but basically that would allow us to take a chance on Drummond if we chose, or pick up Robinson and either Barnes or J Lamb, and we would still have 11 and 24 plus the 2nds.
