Re: Trade ideas
If the Pacers are running a fire sale, I wonder if LeVert or Brogdon would interest us and how cheap they might be if the Pacers were willing to trade them in division. Neither are shooting the 3 well this season, but that could change and experience+length would be nice.

Don't think Brogdon could be traded based on Fanspo pop-up. Something about signing an extension after Sept. 28th.

I don't think Brogdon can be traded but I'm willing to try for LaVert if they're willing to make a reasonable deal.

Also if Simmons and goes to Portland for McCollum and picks. I'd be willing to try to get in on that and pry McCollum away because he'd be a great fit for our roster since we're getting no offense out of the SG position at this moment.

I struggle to think of a reason LeVert is worth his contract ($18M per). He can't defend. He's an inefficient shooter. He's always hurt.
He'll come in, burn possessions, take a bunch of inefficient shots, and stall the development of Mobley/Lauri. He's exactly the type of player the Cavs need to stay far, far away from.

I’m not sure what salaries aggregate to him that don’t create bigger problems/overpay significantly.

Actually, no way, I didn't realize how badly Lavert was playing this year. He's having a 20-21 Cedi type garbage season.

It's not just this year. His career averages aren't much better and he's been in the NBA for 7 seasons.

Based on what I'm reading about CJ's condition, he really should have surgery to prevent the risk of re-occurrence.

As tempting as it often is to add shiny new objects, chemistry is a fleeting thing. And you have it. I would be very hesitant to make any changes at all right now; even straight additions that may nonetheless complicate the current rotations. Again, chemistry is fragile and not to be messed with when it's going strong. You're ahead of schedule anyway, just enjoy riding the wave and see where it takes you.

The thing is we can't continue with what's essentially been an 8 man rotation over the course of an 80 game season. That's fine for the postseason, but we've got guys playing too many regular season minutes IMO.

It's especially hard to make a move when the guys you're most willing to move or replace in the lineup are playing well. Okoro has been hot this week and has raised his TS% to last year's levels-- if he can keep some momentum he starts looking like the guy we hoped he'd become, and he doesn't need to be pulled from the lineup. Love's hot week has his per-36 stats looking like his Cleveland all-star seasons.
I still don't want to be playing Rubio for 15 of the last 17 minutes of the game, though.

It's definitely way too early to even think of giving up on Okoro. He was a great young prospect and this is just his 2nd season. And he's heading in the right direction.
I'm a Pistons fan, and Killian Hayes (same draft) has been a disaster. Way more disappointing than Okoro. But it's even too early to consider moving on from him.
Okoro was dynamic last night, by the way. The grass is not always greener.... Stick with what you have. It's exciting.

Oh, I don't think wasting time on disaster young players is worthwhile. Once they're a disaster they're no more likely to turn into a good player than a UDFA who makes an impression in the G-League.
But that's also not what I meant for Okoro as he's not a disaster. I more meant moving Okoro to the bench and bringing in another SG, although that's more about displacing Rubio's role as crunch time second option.

In Hayes' defense, disaster was a bit of an overstatement. He's been a disappointment. But again, he's young and shows flashes. Have to give him three seasons before giving up on him.
Rubio has been invaluable for your team, by the way. I wouldn't be trying to reduce his role.

I love him as the backup PG. But when the other team focuses on shutting Garland down and Rubio is pressured to shoot, they're both not doing great. Ultimately we're asking Rubio to be Jordan Clarkson at the end.
The rotation is also funky because Rubio finishes but doesn't start, so Rubio plays from mid-way through the third quarter till the end of the game with only 2-3 minutes of rest. So in addition to having the shooting talent of Ricky Rubio, he's likely fatigued from the minutes distribution.
I'd like to see Ricky start or sub in early and get a bigger rest sometime in the 4th quarter if he's going to close, but I'd rather get someone better suited to finishing games as a secondary scorer.

Re: Trade ideas
Yep, improving our depth would be appreciated as a minimal goal for the deadline/buyout season.
The tough question is whether to trade Rubio, and if I was Altman I'd be talking to Ricky's agent and trying to get a feel for whether he's interested in returning and at what price.
My first thought was what might we do with a pair of first rounders and a pair of second rounders in the upcoming draft, and I realized maybe not as much as we might hope. There were quite a few teams with multiple picks in the last draft, and I don't remember that any of them managed to pull off a trade up.
And we sure don't need 4 rookies next season.
Anyway, probably time for my yearly reminder that some of our better trades often had the fan base scratching their head after it was announced. Nance for Lauri was especially problematic until we heard that Nance made it known he was interested in joining a contender.
Just amazing irony that the Cavs are looking far more like a contender than Portland and our defensive rating has climbed to 3rd in the league without Nance and Prince.

Meanwhile...Windler is raining 3s from 5 ft. behind the arc in the g-league lol
I know its 'just the g-league blah' but tis amazing what happens when you have consistent playing time and are able to get your rhythm and confidence back.

This is why I'm in no rush to make any trades. We've got guys like Wade and Windler in the roster who are barely getting minutes. Pangos only plays in garbage time (although I'm less sure about him). Bickerstaff needs to expand his rotations a little. We shouldn't be making trades that impact the medium or short term until we've got a better idea of what the guys on the roster can do.
