Why do people not want us to have a bench?

Irving/Dellavedova
Wiggins/Nobody/Joe Harris
James/Nobody/Felix
Monroe/Nobody/Powell
Varejao/Nobody

This is awful. We would have no cap space to improve and would be on the same treadmill we were on from 2006 to 2010. Who are we signing for the second unit? Flip Murray? This isn't how you build a team.

I agree. However I am struggling to remember the "depth" of the miami bench that won 2 titles in four years.

I tried to clarify in my last response....I only meant a combo of the three. If you did include all three....I know Detroit is dying to get rid of Jennings, lol.

I like Monroe...went nuts when he was available and GSW instead took Udoh (yes kids..if ya think I'm a tad nuts....that's when it began) I would NOT give all 3 of those guys..probably 2 of them and a pick. HOWEVER...what Detroit really NEEDS was and is a SF who can start. They hardly need to flip Monroe to just get another PF.. yet so many of the deals for Monroe or Smth..seem to send Detroit another PF or C/PF. Also.. I think Monroe probably has more worth as a C.

LOL....I've clarified in my last four responses, I meant a combo of the three! Two PF's are too redundant! All I was saying is a combo package like that would get Love, but it would get you Monroe....that is all!

As a reminder Battier, Miller, Cole, lewis, Anderson , Allen , Jones, and haslem. That was a damn good bench.
To be honest if you think about it, without miller and Shane for the first title and Allen and miller for the second they wouldn't have won any titles. It was clutch shots by those guys the made the difference down the stretch.

Detroit would probably want waiters and a 1st for Monroe...they need a backcourt guy who can handle multiple positions.

So let's say we did that

I believe the only real hole that would leave would be a backup SG (Hello Ray or Miller)

I think a combo of Varejo/Thompson/Haywood can handle the 5.

Detroit has KCP, they are as high or higher on him than Cleveland is on Waiters....so no, I don't see Waiters as a coveted piece at all. They would probably want Bennett or Thompson and two firsts. This deal moving Monroe is more about covering their mistake for signing Josh Smith more than anything else. I would also think Cleveland would want to keep Waiters. Wiggins isn't going to be dominant his year, maybe his first couple. He'll have some defensive impact and some crazy dunks, but I don't think he's going to blow up his first year regardless of where he plays.....he has a ton of work on his offensive game to do, the first of which is learning how to dribble. Cleveland would need Waiters and Wiggins to platoon the SG spot, IMO.

Meh all you want. Its undeniable that without those guys they would not have won the titles they did. Major reason they got blow out this year is because their bench finally quit performing.

Technically besides a gift from God that bench got them one title in 4 years, just an fyi.

Look at it however you want. No mike miller and Shane Battier not first title, no ray Allen and mike miller no second title. Call it whatever you want. You need your bench to be able to perform to be competitive.

No no I totally agree bro. I'm just saying that bench can be built for cheap.

Can't happen. Cavs don't have cap room and RFA can only be traded to the team that they sign with.

a S&T makes it happen. Cavs would get his bird rights which allows them to go over the cap

I would pass on Monroe. Too much money for a center who cannot defend well or stretch the floor.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Can't happen he's a RFA. The Cavs can't tender the offer sheet as they are already capped out. So unless no other team tenders an offer sheet, and Monroe agrees to a number that Detroit agrees to pay him, then it isn't happening. Even if no one else tenders and offer sheet and he signs with Detroit, I don't believe he can be traded immediately

it absolutely could happen, a S&T can happen under any circumstance in the NBA

It can't happen under any circumstances. Particularly with RFA. http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q91 See question 91. As soon as Monroe signs an offer sheet with another team, he can only be traded to the team that tenders the offer. The Cavs can't tender an offer that would take them above the cap.

Now, it is theoretically possible that Monroe won't receive an offer, will agree on a number with the Cavs, and Detroit will then agree to sign him to that number and trade him to the Cavs, but that seems unlikely to say the least.
