I guess I was thinking that they just spent $8.7 million for a late 2015 lottery pick (if Speights picks up option), and that they could use some 1 year salary for 2013/14 to reach the salary floor without impeding on 2014 cap-space.

Ellington is worth something, which is not being accounted for. I was unaware that he could put the ball on the floor and that his level of effort on defense is as high as it is. As far as Speights is concerned, the verdict is still out. Until he signs his next contract, it is hard to say anything definitive about what Cleveland was able to get out of the deal. On the Contrast, though that 2015 Golden State 1st could end up being a lottery pick, it is more likely that pick falls in the mid to late range.

First on NBA TV then at :

bleacherreport.com/.../1506037-nba-trade-rumors-raptors-reportedly...

Bargnani is not a true center but who is. I think he would bring an outside shot and be an interesting addition. Things like the pick and pop with Irving or waiters would add a dozen points a game over what he does now. Yes he is the black hole when it comes to the ball but he is a deep threat that spreads the floor and would avoid the conflict that TT and AV have on the floor when they are both inside. Bargani and TT or AV would not botgh be low posts together. That's why I like it for expirings and Speights. Win Win for them. Hell I may consider Zeller in the Mix in stead of Speights since Tyler is sooooooo soft. I know I'm going to hear some crap about that last opinion.

There is not one positive thing about bringing bargs to this team. He is terrible in every aspect of basketball and beyond terrible in most areas. Then he gets payed 10 mil per. Id be so angry at management if we acquired him unless its accompanied with 4000 first round picks. Keep building properly and dont bring overpaid hacks onto this team or we will eventually lose kyrie. **** bargs.

This better not **** happen.

Bargnani doesn't fit the model. His contract runs beyond the summer of 2014 and he's already on his second contract. The Raptors do not possess the assets to make him attractive.

His only redeeming attribute is as a stretch 4 roll player; but his contract is 2x what he's worth in that roll. See Channing Frye as a comparison.

Doesn't belong on the Cavs.

Kurupted I agree but I see no other moves that are likely. I'd love to get D. Cousins but tell me how?

Bleacher report is the first thing I see wrong with that report

I'd keep an eye on the teams close to the tax threshold as we come down to the wire.

Chicago has never paid the tax and likely will during the Rose era. Since they aren't likely competing for the title in 2013, my guess is that they'll make a deal to get under the threshold to put off being a repeater as long as they can. Something like Hamilton, Mohammed, and the Bulls 2013 1st for Ellington.

Golden State & Portland could be looking at similar moves.

As for Cousins, I think he is exactly the piece they want to go with Irving. I also, don't think that he is available... Yet. My guess is that his availability won't be until Seattle is finalized, and The Sonics get enthralled with the idea of two lottery picks developing together.

Hoping we can flip Speight/Gibson for something over the next two days. Speights can net us a good piece IMO. I was thinking along the lines of

Boston in:
Speights
Gibson

Cleveland in:
2014 Boston 1st (top 3 protected)
filler

I like the idea of renting our cap space for next year for a future pick or two since it's the last year we're liable to do it.

I think we make a splash in 2014 either by free agency or trade and we're gonna want bigger expirings to go along with our young talent and draft picks. I think golden state is a good fit seeing as we can get them below the tax and maybe give them a player they could actually use for the playoffs this year (speights, ellington, gibson) and take back a horrible non entity (biedrins) with a nice expiring and maybe a guy who could help us next year (brandon rush, charles jenkins)

To be honest I'm all for one more year of tank. i'd love andrew wiggins on this team, but that's a dream.

either way, one more year of youth before we (hopefully) throw a superstar in the mix and surround them with veterans. if dan gilbert is willing to spend like i think he is then we could use all our cap in 2014 before having to resign our core.

How's Casspi's defense? Still non-existent?

Lets say we get lucky and are in position to draft Nerlens Noel, or even Alex Len for that matter.
What do you think of Anderson Varejao and one of our 2nds to Boston for Jeff Green, Jared Sullinger and a future draft pick?

Jeff Green has his weaknesses as a rebounder but can be a great 6th man who can play both f spots. Only downside is his salary which is 2 yrs longer essentially than AV's.
It is well noted that Cavs are preparing for a run at 2014 free agency. Greens salary would be a step backwards, but this can be offset with the acquisition of Sullinger. Sullinger is averaging 6/6 in 20 mpg. Reminds me of a Brandon Bass type roll player. With him on a rookie salary off the bench and Zeller as the backup to a guy like Noel we can afford to let Speights walk and get overpaid in the 6-8million per yr range by another team.

I would think that Boston would want to keep both Sullinger and Green. Green has been playing very well since Rondo went down (or so I thought).

Green - February splits (12 games)
31.3mpg
15.3ppg (51.2%/41.4%/86.3%)
4.1rpg
2.0apg
1.7bpg

Green is looking like he might end up being a more consistent Marvin Williams, who is the type of player I would like to see at the 3. Big, athletic, solid perimeter defender that can knock down shots from outside with consistency.

Jeff Green is a fine player, but not in the short-term for the Cavs. His salary is higher and for a longer term than the Cavs should be willing to add at this point and he hasn't really developed as a player. He is substantially the same player he was 6 years ago. It's not a bad proposed deal, but personally, I'd rather they let Varejao expire and go after the younger, more talented, SF from GTown: Otto Porter.

I was surprised to see Porter slipping to the middle of the 1st round on a couple of notable mock drafts.
