Re: 2021 off season thread
They have more money. At this point, the Cavs might as well wait until the 6th, when they can actually sign someone, and put a contract in front of Dipo, or sign Schroder for another team in order to get a wing back.

We can’t sign Schroeder and then trade him. I think he has to be on our roster thru something like Mid January

My updated list pet Fedor of players he said the Cavs could/will look at, not that anybody cares but here it is.
1. Terrance Ross
2. Bojan Bogdonivic (Hes 6'7" veteran who plays defense and shoots 39% from 3 )
3. Joe Ingles
4. Victor Oladipo
5. Josh Hart
6. Denzel Valentine
7. Kelly Oubre Jr.

Josh Hart for 2 years 12 million or so is as good as we’re going to do I bet.
What are we trading for Bogdonvic or Ingles? Nance would likely have to go out for either. I’m guessing we can also probably trade Rubio for Bogdonovic.

We would probably trade the 22' Rockets 2nd rounder we have for either Bojan/Ingles. Its expected to be a high 2nd rounder obviously and if the Jazz are looking to salary dump--thats not a terrible asset.
Josh Hart does absolutly nothing for me. He is the definition of JAG and does nothing great. Hes a solid defender but he hasnt shot well in 2 years. Plus hes a SG, not a SF we need. I feel like the only reason to sign him would be because the Cavs have 0 other options and to make Nance happy.

Pels will match that. His RFA status is probably why he hasn't signed for twice that.Harper4Ferry? wrote:Josh Hart for 2 years 12 million or so is as good as we’re going to do I bet.

Re: 2021 off season thread
If we can get Dipo on a two year deal for the MLE, that's what I'm doing. We have wings, they're just not terribly good offensively. If you're getting enough offense out of the other players, it won't matter. Plus, in terms of future trade value, reaching on need never works out. Signing a talented player on a team friendly deal always works out.LivingLegend wrote:Harper4Ferry? wrote:We can’t sign Schroeder and then trade him. Re: 2021 off season thread
Washington has too many wings after the Westbrook trade, they're a potential trade partner too. Beal/KCP/Kuzma/Bertans/Kispert/Avdija. Might be able to pry one or two of them away in the Westbrook trade.
The question is what the Cavs are trading, and at this point it's either Sexton, Garland, or Nance as salary there for the vets unless you're sending picks to swap Love for Bertans.

He would be great, but again its a risky gamble. He has been a shell of his former self since that injury and the Cavs roster being fragile to being with makes me hesistant to bring in another guy with injury history.
Betting on Dipo to 1) Be healthy for 70+ games and 2) Still be effective is a tall tall tall order.
I also love what Ross and Bogdonovic bring 10x more all things considered.

I'm not trading Sexton or Garland for any of them except Beal, which I really doubt he'd be that much better for the Cavs, and I'd only trade Nance if we got Avdija or Kispert.

I dont think a player would be getting traded, if anything its either a salary swap to dump Love or giving up a pick. Im not nearly attached to draft picks as many are so I really dont care about giving one up to make something happen

Danny Green may be a possibility (if a half dozen other things fall through for him).

On one hand, I don't think anyone wants to trade the guys I mentioned. On the other, there aren't any good shooters left to sign, and on paper we're going to be as bad or worse shooting team than last year.

I’m in the minority, but I’d bank on an Osman/Okoro pairing improving before I parted with the price mediocrity is demanding.

Oh I agree, I just think trading Nance and everything he brings to this team in favor of a 3pt specialist would be a step in the wrong direction. Nance simply does too much for this team with his swiss army knife play style that he practically 2 players in 1 because of his versatility. He can be a backup SF in a big linup or your backup PF, even play some C in a pinch.
As far as the shooting goes, I would like to think (in a perfect world) the players on our team improve. Garland puts up more volume, Windler comes back healthy and is a flamethrower, Love stays healthy and shoots his 37+%, Okoro improves to a respectable number in his 2nd year, ect, ect. We have guys who can make 3s at a good percentage--the problem is we dont have guys who shoot in volume. Thats where Garland taking that step to 9-10 per game and Love hopefully being healthy taking his 7-9 per game could help boost those team numbers a bit.

Re: 2021 off season thread
Dipo going back to Miami--that was a nice 24hr dream.
Not a whole lot of options left......Im mentally prepping myself for Josh Hart as quite literally being a last resort option. So much for "We really need to focus this offseason on restocking quality veterans around the young guys" thing. Maybe they can lure Danny Green, but hes probably ring chasing.

Re: 2021 off season thread
Yeah, it'd be surprising for them both to not progress a little, but they may not make it all the way to positive contributors on offense this season. At the very least you want insurance if they don't. Having only maybe four NBA-quality SG/SF guys on the roster (Sexton, Okoro, Osman, Windler?) means we're playing G-leaguers if someone twists an ankle. Serious NBA teams don't do that.

Sure seems we all agree the Cavs need to improve their shooting and floor spacing, but the free-agent options weren't all that great to begin with and they're only getting worse.
For instance I wouldn't have minded seeing us sign Otto Porter, but the odds of him being healthy and productive through a season aren't particularly high. Given we have players under contract and we should have simple luxuries this season such as training camp, practice time, and an experienced PG on the roster ... we might take a closer look at what we think we have before spending all our remaining cap space on a bandaid.
If there was a move that solidified our starting lineup for years to come? That'd be great, but it's a reach to even conclude we're just one move away from finding that core. When the P&D Cavs traded for Nance Sr, at least they had good reason to believe he was the last piece they needed - that turned out wrong - but we can't even begin to pretend we're one player away from being the top team in the East.
The only way the Cavs can find value via free-agency is to either wait for LeBron to want to come back, or wait for the music to stop playing and see who's left without a chair.

No, the Cavs just need to stop being a dumpster fire of an organization. Everyone saw what happened with Drummond, what's happening with Love, what happened with JR Smith, etc. The Cavs have done a lot of veteran guys wrong in the relatively recent past.
