Yes because holding on to a 31 year old Varejao who has lost a step, injury prone and was the worst interior defender in the league last year (proven, google the article) and Bynum who has degenerative knees is much, much better. Why on earth would we want a young, strong 7 footer who protects the rim and rebounds?

I would say I'm glad you're not running the organization but I fear you would do just as bad a job. . .

If you really believe that i dont know what to tell you. FTR i thought his post defense last year was bad as well but far from worst in the league.

And you're looking at it the wrong way anyway. We dont want MCGee because hes not that good, has 0 bball IQ and has a bad contract.

Edit - just saw you realized bout his contract.

Okay, but if not for that contract I would take him over Andy or Bynum at this point in their careers and that's the point I'm trying to make. I think the center position needs to be addressed regardless.

And...

There's the write up I referenced before. It's a PDF so scroll down a few pages and it ranks the top 5 and bottom 5 interior defenders in the league, Varejao is dead last.

Bargs was ranked the second best post defender in the league via that study. I think thats enough said.

Advanced defensive stats can be an ok point of reference / measuring stick but there are too many elements that can make someone look a lot better or worse than they actually are.

The cavs would not want Rudy gay unless they knew he was going to opt out next year. Even then We would only trade Bynum for cap relief if we already gave up on him and someone like Gee to make the money match. Now I would have interest in derozen. He is basically as goods waiters will ever be. So why wait on the development. They both have different skill set. But waiters can get more assist and derozen can get more rebounds. Strait up with the cavs sending a filler would be ok with me

Peronally i think waiters ceiling is higher than Demars so i'd be an easy no. Demars been in the league longer and not looking like anything special and overpaid.

The friction between Waiters and Kyrie is resolved by bringing in a rising young star in Butler who is a lockdown defender, solid standstill shooter, and developing slasher. Natural position is the 3 but is a capable 2-guard. Would be ideal next to a 2 PG offense like the Cavs often feature in Kyrie/Jack.

The Bulls get a 2nd scorer to put next to Rose. Resolves the conflict in position with Butler/Deng.

Edit: If you prefer Deng to Butler, the Bulls would be even more amenable to that because of tax concerns. We may be able to offer Deng/James for Waiters/Clark/Miles, if that'd interest you.

Go away Brooklyn we are keeping waiters

I'd take Butler for Waiters all day.

I wonder if Philly is interested in him at all, get Meatwad in Ohio!

Houston asks for Waiters and Andy as a counter.

Thats the kind of price tag Asik has right now.

I dunno if we'd be able to get anything of value for him though. They have Buttler and the bobcats lotto pick but Jack aint bringing either of those to back.

Beyond that i can see maybe Deng (only because they want to save money and they have buttler) but we're not gonna commit to someone like him until after next off season.

That price will come down when Houston finds out that the market for a defensive only center is not that high.

Posted this on GS board: Jack and TT (or AV) for Lee. There is some interest.

Why do you think this is a terrible idea? The Cavs have zero offense from the front court. Lee is a career 20/10 guy. Think about how much better the offense would be with Lee in it.

Indy can't consider it fiscally. We need Granger's expiring contract to pay for Paul George's new max contract next year. Adding Jack would mean we'd be only a hundred thousand or two short of the luxury tax after filling out the roster with minimum salaried guys. That also means we'd have to let Lance Stephenson walk for nothing in return in free agency as we couldn't afford to offer him anything or take back salary in a trade (we've vowed to never go over the luxury tax). So, even though we would like Jack, we just couldn't even consider making a move for him.

Then, we're also stable at PG with Hill, Watson, and Sloan as our emergency PG. While Jack would be an upgrade over Watson in theory, in practice, it's not with paying extra over with our system.

Noah+Deng for Bynum+Varejao+Cavs 2014 1st+Protected Kings 1st

Worth it just to see Noah's face the day he finds out he's going to Cleveland.

Deng for Bynum and a top 10 protected first makes a lot of sense.

Chicago can waive Bynum to get themselves out of the tax, plus get a pick to find a lower cost rotation player going forward. The Cavs get a veteran defensive leader still in his prime while still giving themselves cover if Deng bolts in the offseason and they hit the lottery.
