Hey Cavs fans, I was just wondering about how LeBron turned 19 in his first year in the league on Dec. 30th 2003. Most players who enter the NBA straight out of high school (assuming 4 years) would only be 18. ie. Kobe turned 18 the summer after he was drafted and same with Bynum. So did LeBron take 5 years of high school for some reason? Anyone know the situation?

The reason I ask is I wonder how much further along LeBron would be if this was his 8th year in the League. I remember people said he would've been a 1st pick even if he declared as a Junior in 2002. A part of me doesn't want to believe he needed 5 years to finish high school. So they never let players declare who didn't finish their HS education??

No, what probably happened was that instead of starting Kindergarten a few months early, he started a few months later than the average. You see this often with people who have Oct-December birthdays. They always tend to be a year older(or younger) than everyone in their class. LeBron turned 19 in December of his rookie season. It just means he started Kindergarten when he was 5, about to turn 6, instead of 4, about to turn 5(I wonder how good he was at ball then )

at least lebron don't look like greg oden...He looks like he is in his 40s

I dont get it. Almost every single person I know turned 19 their first year of college, which is equivalent to rookie year nba.
