Marc Berman of the New York Post writes that the Knicks could help lure LeBron James to town by giving one of his former high school teammate's a spot on their summer league roster.

The Knicks are in need of help at the point guard position and could give Dru Joyce III, who played in Poland last season, a shot to make the team.

Berman continues that the Knicks could even offer Joyce an invitation to training camp if that's what it would take to land James.

Lol, like Cleveland wouldnt sign + START if LeBron wanted. Hell even give him the MLE.

Thats so stupid. His friend doesn't have NBA level talent from what I read. If anything it would make Lebron's friend look bad and could make Lebron look like an ass.

Exactly, lol, and yeah this is the little dude if you seen the movie, lack of basketball talent, lack of size, just a lot of hustle and heart. If LeBron really would of wanted that, he'd have him on the team already.

Yeah cause thats exactly what Bron wants...a fricken no talent player from his HS team...that will really get the Knicks closer to winning a title. Whoever made up this store in the media is oblivious.

The Cavs did this a few years ago:
Romeo Travis and Dru Joyce III were selected to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2008 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Travis and Joyce were each standout players at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and The University of Akron. The tandem were high school teammates of current Cavaliers star LeBron James, who will play for USA in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

Travis, the 2007 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, played on the Cavaliers Summer Team last season.

Travis and Joyce were professional teammates this past season in Germany on Ratiopharm Ulm in the Bundesliga League after Travis briefly played for Alerta Cantabria and Ciudad de Huelva in Spain.

Joyce played 34 games for Ulm and averaged 9.5 points and 4.4 assists in about 26 minutes per game. Travis played 10 games for Ulm and averaged 10.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in about 23 minutes per game.

of course...probably more along the lines of why marc berman and the new york post consider this practice "news"?

Do you guys have anyone in the Cleveland sports media that you don't take seriously? Well that's Berman to NY'ers. :D

In today's edition of "stupid Knicks" comes this quote

"I think there are more Knicks fans in Miami than Heat fans."

Knicks have fans outside of NY? wow.

What's wrong about that quote? That's quite possibly true.

Knicks have lots of fan transplants, whether it's people who moved to NY, adopted the Knicks and moved back, or native New Yorkers who left elsewhere.

If he was so appreciated why wait till he is considering leaving to hold an appreciation day?

Hell if he comes to NY there will be an appreciation day every time he steps foot into Scores ;)

Well, Akron has a reason to hold a LeBron appreciation day, considering that is his hometown and he has done a lot for the city of Cleveland.. I doubt that is a way of trying to make LeBron stay, but that is just my opinion. On the other hand, I don't know if having LeBron's high school teammate play on the Knicks' summer league roster is a good way to lure him to New York. There are definitely better ways out there.
