Official Brian Shaw Thread

Hey guys,
Mitch Kupchack confirmed yesterday that the Cavaliers have asked for permission to talk to Shaw about the head-coaching position.
If Shaw is chosen as Mike Brown's replacement, it would guarantee Shaq's return to Cleveland because him and Shaw are ex-teammates who are very close and Shaq recommended on Twitter last week that the Cavs should interview Shaw.
Your thoughts?
"They did call a couple of days ago and we did grant permission," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said. "Now it's up to Brian and Cleveland. All of our coaches' contracts run out at the end of the month anyway, so it is accurate."

I don't think Shaw guarentees Shaq does anything. If LeBron isn't here, and that doesn't look good, then Shaq won't be either.
As for Shaw, its a good idea to interview him. The media seems fairly confident that if Phil retires the Lakers will be choosing between Shaw and Scott. I happen to think Shaw will be the favorate because he runs the same system and the team is coming off back to backs and probably doesn't want to change. Either way if the Lakers want one of those two, then we should too and I'll be happy with either.

Hawks fan here....that move to interview Shaw makes so much sense. Where Sund doesn't have that common sense, you guys aren't satified with where you are.
If LBJ comes back, it makes a lot of sense to have either Scott or Shaw on your bench. They both come in with strong intentions and know how a championship team needs to be built.
LBJ or not, the Hawks IMO still don't pass the Cavs in the standings next year.

I was kind of wondering if this team would interview Shaw after the Izzo courtship went south. He seems to be a good assistant, and know the Lakers and the triangle, so if Lebron re-ups he would seem to be a logical candidate along with Scott.
I wouldnt view hiring Scott as hiring a coaching retread, and I wouldnt view hiring Shaw as hiring an unproven assistant coach either. Both have the credentials of playing in the league, and being well respected around the league by players and FO types as well.
We certainly could do a lot worse than either Scott or Shaw.

Shaw would be a great candidate! We need innovative offensive thinking that ensures that players get there shots and do well! I think Shaw or Scott would bring that without sacrificing defensive intensity.

You guyz sure he isn't using this interview to play politics with the Lakers front office or maybe he using it as a test run in prep for Phil Jackson's gig? I was just wondering. I think Rambis did the same but it back fired.
Brian Shaw Close To Deal With Cavs For Head Coach

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/06/29/sour ... cavaliers/A source told FanHouse the Lakers assistant is close to finalizing a deal to join the Cavaliers just one day before James' much-anticipated free agency begins. Shaw was a finalist with former New Orleans and New Jersey coach Byron Scott after Michigan State coach Tom Izzo declined the team's offer earlier this month.

Here on realgm his agent is quoted as saying the deal is close.
This is really good news for the Cavaliers. Bring on the Triangle!

sigh...
Some report he's close to a deal...others deny it. I hope there isn't any sort of issue between the two parties and the Cavs are just mulling it over and are going to officially make an offer tomorrow or Thursday.
On another note, I really, really, hope this isn't distracting us from trade talks. Even if we do get a coach tomorrow we still have quite a bit of work to do and not a lot of time.

Not totally against it, but I'm a little concerned that he is coming off as an assistant coach, similar to Mike Brown.. Either way though, I wouldn't mind having either Shaw or Scott.

Shaw is pretty good, but if Cavs dont get lebron back and dont get anything in return, I dont see Cavs making the playoffs even with Shaw

Grass is green...
LeBronmagedon starts at midnight folks and what not a good way to start it off by hiring an assistant coach to an 11 time NBA Finals winning coach.

i dont think brian shaw or anyother coach but Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers is better than Mike Brown.
Its not his felt they lost to Celtics -- the roster just wasnt championship calibur. Brian Shaw wont win you over 60 games like Mike Brown will. Anyway -- Chicago, New York, and Miami are looking pretty good to Lebron now I bet.
