Props to the Cavs fans. It just proves that even though Gilbert anger was directed to Lefail he did speak on the fans behalf. I agree that Lefail did what he had to do for himself BUT my problem was the way he did it. Im glad Gilbert spoke out and ripped Lefail a new one, props to him. Thats what a good owner is suppose to do for his team.

While Dan Gilbert's rage in Comic Sans didn't do him any favors with David Stern, Jesse Jackson or Miami Heat superstars, it did win over some pretty important people — Cleveland Cavaliers fans. Distraught by the loss of their marquee player, Cavs fans embraced Gilbert's guarantees and disgust with LeBron James(notes). Now they're taking things a step further than just agreeing with him — they're helping him.

After being hit with a $100,000 fine for his ode to anger, Gilbert received an offer of his own from some Clevelanders who totally agree with everything he said, if not his font choice. From the Associated Press:

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has more fans and friends than he ever knew.

His emotional, controversial letter criticizing LeBron James for leaving to join Miami spawned an outpouring of fan support for Gilbert. A team spokesman said the team has received thousands of e-mails and phone calls, including some from fans offering to help Gilbert pay a $100,000 NBA-imposed fine.

Well, that's nice. Very nice. Probably not allowed by the NBA in any way, shape or form, but it's the thought that counts.

I feel Gilbert for being mad but don't put the future on the line.

I am a big supporter of Gilbert and the Cavs BUT this is just plain stupid. If you want to support Gilbert and the Cavs, continue to watch the games and buy tickets.

Yeah, it really doesn't make much sense for anyone to offer to pay the fine of a billionaire

Rap fan here. Now also a Cavs supporter !
That is not a dumb idea. It's not about the amount of money itself. Its more symbolic, about showing support to the team and maybe sending a message to the NBA.

I have very good income. I gave more money/gifts than I received, but I really appreciated things I received, including things that don't cost much given by people with lower incomes.
Sorry for my bad english.

I really don't think the NBA should have given a fine. IIRC the NBA itself was not the target of letter. (And words don't have much consequence in comparison with actions)

I believe some of you guys are missing the point of the fans intentions.

The fans wanted to say what Gilbert DID SAY.

The offer to pay the fine isnt because Gilbert has no money, its because Gilbert stood up for himself as well as the fans.

Oh no, I completely understand that fans felt that what Gilbert voiced was exactly what they felt. Still doesn't make sense to pay his fine though.

This statement was posted from Gilbert 3 days ago.

Dan Gilbert wrote:I would like to say thanks for the incredible outpouring of support by the numerous loyal and passionate Cavaliers fans who have offered to contribute to paying the recent fine I was assessed by the NBA.

The humbling offer by so many is another reflection of the strength of Cavs fans and the people who live and work in this region and are always the first to step up and have each other’s back.

I will pay this fine myself, but would be grateful and highly appreciative for any fan who redirects the dollars they kindly offered to contribute towards this fine to the Cavaliers Youth Fund, which will positively impact our region’s kids through the numerous local charitable groups the Cavaliers Youth Fund supports.

What the heck does this mean?

And I have no idea why burning his jersey is considered racist either.

If this is true I lose SERIOUS respect for Cleveland and the state of Ohio. Paying a billionaire for his lunatic remarks? I'm sure there are some normal fans hidden under the commotion but for the ones who support that guy and are actually willing to pay to the billionaire freak make me glad Cleveland is a depressing sports town.

Who are you to tell an adult where he can and can't go for work? Especially if he already put in 7 years of work there and got minimal help. It's not as clear cut as you think. Larry Hughes and Mo Williams and 35 year old Antawn Jamison are not good enough sidekicks in a championship run.

Clearly missing the boat. I think you need to read up on why people are angry and once you educate yourself on it then you can come and apologize. Until then you are just antagonizing fans who are already hurt with comments that are clearly way off base.

Apparently, he is implying that only white people burned his jersey..

Just so you know, LeBron was the one who wanted Hughes and Jamison.
