Why signing Allen Iverson is a good idea/doesnt hurt the team:

1) He brings exciment to the town. Cleveland is not competing for anything and still has to sell tickets, fill the arena.
2) No other All-Star is available in FA.
3) Cleveland has nothign to lose (as in the subject - a one year contract), only get better.

So what do you say? AI looks good in Cavs uniform, I'll tell you this.

Iverson hasn't brought any excitement to anyone except Philadelphia since about 2005.

We have nothing to lose, but also nothing to gain. We are better off going with the gaurds on the roster and develping the system. They need to come together as a team and AI doesn't help, especially on a one year contract. Even if he helps us moderately, a few more W's doesn't help our draft status, which it sucks to say, is important. And if he helped us even more than expected, its still not enough to do damage in the playoffs and he's not a long term fit.

If he were more of the Veteren Player Now-Head Coach-in Waiting type, then maybe. But we dont need a bad example, and Byron Scott wouldn't put up with it. Just not a good move on many levels.

I dont know if sticking with your current roster, almost no all-star (beside agent 0-12 Jamison and Booby Gibson), will keep you in front of the TV. Ah, I forgot - you signed lately Joey Graham. Big signing, that will show that LeBron ! Anyway, see were Im going? At least you'll sell some jerseys, more people in the arena (Im sure of that - if you of course dont bench him = not a good idea), more people will watch games.

I'm not so sure why people always get so whiny about someone disagreeing with you. I don't know anyone that's been a Cavs fan for years that would care about Iverson being on the team. Fact is, the Cavs aren't going to be very good and frankly Iverson hasn't improved a team he's been on in half a decade.

Btw, who is trying to prove a point to LeBron?

I can see why somone might think signing Iverson might make sense. But us Cavs fans want a rebuild, the right way, through the draft first, then when the team is close to contention, and only then, would we consider signing an aging vet with some (a lot in AI's case) baggage to possibly get us over the top.
But since you went to the sarcasm card about the signing of Graham, I think you might have a different agenda other than trying to enlighten us with your pov. Which btw isnt really all that original or enticing to us Cavs fans.
"PRACTICE, I MEAN, WHAT ARE WE TALKIN ABOUT, PRACTICE?" Iverson wouldnt even be happy here on a rebuilding team anyway, that would be a recipe for disaster if you ask me (and you did).

Im not whining, I just like to debate and discuss. Im just surprised that with the present roster, a Cavalier fan would not like to have Iverson on the team. Its not like Im saying "sign Kwame Brown". No Iverson fans in the Cavs community? I dont believe that.

Man, I cheered for the Pistons, Grizzlies and 76ers for the last 2 years (the worst Pistons ever, the 3-games Iverson in Memphis, and the awful Sixers) - I know exactly what its like to be in a situation like you (tanking or praying for some trades, to improve the situation), so dont be like "You're being mean".

I actually wouldn't mind Kwame, the Cavs could use a defensive big man. But an undersized volume shooter who can't shot and is deferential about defense? I just don't see that as a good fit or anything that'd help this team.

He just sounds like an Iverson homer to me.. I don't think there needs to be a justification on why we don't want him but I'll just do so anyways. One, he is washed up now.. He was waived by Memphis for a reason, and he also played poorly in his last 25 games with Philly. Two, the Cavs are basically rebuilding now. Three, we already have enough small guards. Four, he isn't a team player and he has no fit with the team.

If the Cavaliers are able to dump Mo I'd consider bringing in AI. Right now they're pretty deep at undersized shooting guard.

I think AI could still World B Free his way to 20 points a game if you let him, and at this point in the process its not as bad an idea as a lot of people are suggesting.

There's a lot more to lose than what you might think. From a Clevelander that moved here from Detroit - stay away from this guy. First off, he's done. He doesn't have it anymore.

But the part that makes it worse? He doesn't realize it. He still thinks (or did when he was in Detroit), that he should be starting every night, and his childish immaturity will do immeasurable damage to such things as team chemistry, motivation, etc, etc, etc. He will insist on being a starter. He will pout when someone gets started over him. And he will refuse to play if he isn't starting. You just lost a prima donna who had amazing basketball talent, there's no since in replacing him with a prima donna who can't back it up. IMO, if the Cavs are going to succeed this year (and I honestly feel they're going to be a playoff team, at least, even without Lebron), they're going to have to do it by getting character players that buy into the team concept.

Sure, why not? I'd love to see one of my all-time favorite players in a Cavs uniform.

I would rather sign McGrady for a year, at least he plays a position of need.

I wasnt trying to say you were being mean, but there have been a LOT of posters here lately with agendas, trying to get some digs in all the while saying "not trying to troll" or something along those lines. I would rather just deal with the rebuild rather than take on AI with all his baggage, and imo it defeats the purpose of tanking and delays the inevitable if the team were to win a few more games with him than if he wasnt signed.

No offense but Iverson wouldn't want to come to Cleveland especially after Lebron left. He wants to win, not lose.
