I dont understand why so many people feel bad for him, he knew what he was coming in to, he took the risk...
but on another level, I am not too happy about him as of now, yes he dosent have much talent, but what this team lacks the most is EFFORT, and a good coach should be able to get that out of his players, he hasent.... It also makes me mad watching him on the sidelines disinterested, he never argues for a call, and just dosent seem like he even cares... kinda like the players

I know its a early to be thinking about firing Scott, but so far im unimpressed...
do you think its lack of talent or lack of good coaching?

In fairness he didn't know he was coming to this. Worst case people expected this to be a 30 win team. If healthy maybe they would have gotten there, who knows.

That said, the athletes are professionals they shouldn't need some big pep rally speech to give effort. They are just undersized across the board and completely overmatched. There isn't anything Scott can do about that.

That is just who he is, you should have known that coming into this season.

Everything was fine up until we faced the Heat on December 2nd. Since then, this entire team has been a mess. Injuries are a part of this disappointing season, but the team is to blame, not so much the coach.

if that's the supposed "worst case," a lot of people had serious delusions about this team.

the front office is very guilty of this.

Do you think that he thought or was told there was a good chance that James would be returning this year and thats why he took the job?

I think Scott is a pretty good coach and Personly I dont think this record is his fault what so ever

I think he believed lecon would come back. The whole point of getting Scott was that lecon wanted a coach with championship credentials if I remember correctly. It was a bit of a gamble fo Scott and he lost. He will take some of the blame in some fans eyes regardless of injuries, thats just what comes with the territory of being a head coach.
However, if/when this team gets turned around he will get a ton of credit (if he is still here by then).

I know the Cavs have had many injuries, but when a team has gone on such an extended losing streak, as Cleveland has, some of the blame has to be levelled at the coach ...

Personally I truly think the Cavs are not as bad as their form or record suggests (you beat us earlier this season :) ) but I really feel for the players and the fans.

Coach Scott has to remain positive and try and not let the mounting frustration get to him or his players, Doc Rivers once lost 17 or 18 games in a row as coach of the Celtics, and now he's an championship coach and coach of this year's East All Stars.

The cavs have no real talent. Their starters are bench players, and bench players CBA players. Judge Scott when he has talent to coach.

Firstoff,
Cavs management should have traded Mo Williams and Jamison for 2nd round picks and benchwarmers and given those minutes to DLeaguers or hungry FA young players barely hanging on in the league. Players like Mo and Jamison are only worth keeping on a contending team.

Trade Jamison to the Bobcats for Diop,Najera and Henderson. Jordan would have done that deal easy since they were wanting to stay playoff contenders.

Trade Mo and Moon to Detroit for Ben Gordon, DeJuan Summers,Terrico White. Gordon has a year longer than Mo but at least Gordon can create his own shot and doesn't totally suck. Summers could have been a nice prospect if given the minutes.

C-AV/Hollins
PF-Hickson/Powe/Samuels
SF-Summers/Henderson/Eyenga
SG-Gordon/Parker
PG-Sessions/Gibson

IR-White
IR-Diop

The only players they should have kept was AV/AP and maybe Boobie. AV is a good quality young center, AP is a good vet/3 point shooter and Boobie is a good sixth man combo guard type guy. Everyone else pretty much sucks or were players meant to play off Lebron.

I don't feel sorry for the Cavs as they did very little this offseason after Lebron left. The Orlando Magic after Penny of the late 90's was a much worse team talent wise yet they did really well because they played hard with players who had something to prove (Ben Wallace,Darrell Armstrong, etc). The Cavs should have copied that gameplan of having a huge firesale.

Also Byron Scott isn't a great coach. He pissed off Kidd, then Paul and would have with Lebron if he stayed. He gets little respect in this league, even Jerry Stackhouse talks smack about him. He will only get your team to a certain level and then they will regress.

Completely different team that beat the Celtics. The current Cavs are jobbers.

NIce of Rocketsftw to come here and rewrite history and tell us how our management should have done business. For the record (for the 20th time at least) rocketsftw, lecon waited until the last minute to announce his decision, and NEVER even bothered to let our FO know he was leaving. So, in your opinion the team did nothing after lecon. Please enlighten us what players this team should have gone after when they found out lecon was leaving.
And of course we should have dumped every player on the roster for second round picks, the season ticket holders would have understood completely and immediately re-upped for next season after that. Of course without any of the vets, this team would have no problem setting the record for futility of less than 9 wins, which is what every owner in professional sports aspires to.
The marketing department would have been grateful for being able to sell tickets on the fact that "it cant possibly get any worse", so that would have been a plus also.
DO ANY OF YOU GENIUSES UNDERSTAND THAT THE NBA IS A FUC*I&G BUSINESS? DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT ANY OWNER OUTSIDE OF STERLING IS NOT CONCERNED WITH THE TICKET BUYING PUBLIC?
I guarantee no owner in the history of sports ever bought a team with the intent of setting a record for losing. Had lecon given the team that paid him millions the courtesy of letting them know in advance that he was leaving the team could at least have had strategy in place to try to salvage this season and start to build for the future, but that didnt happen and we Cavs fans are suffering through the worst season in recent team history. But thanks for your insight.

gflem! you will be alright! Lebron (free agent) can make his decision when and where he wants because he played the years he signed for. What the Cavs are doing is proving just how good he is! Magic retired suddenly and Lakers make the playoffs! Jordan retired suddenly in 93 and bulls make the playoffs and barely lose to Knicks. It is because the team was good. I know you blame lebron for all the pitiful trades and draft picks that the Cavs made during his 7 years but get real and get over it! Your booing and hating only made him light you up when he came to Cleveland and he has made Miami into an incredible team! What this thread was talking about was Byron Scott. What cannot and should not be done is that the Cavs make hasty not smart decisions. Draft well, and trade guys at their most value will make the difference. Build the team around a philosophy such as running, defense, movement and then show Lebron and others why Cleveland is a great place to play!

This is so true. That game was a turning point for Miami, as well. They went on an extended winning streak, while you guys went on a extended losing streak.

As a Bulls fan, I kinda understand how you guys feel. We went through the same thing once our Dynasty was broken up. It's not easy to go from championship favorites to laughingstocks in the blink of an eye. Hopefully you guys draft a stud like we did with D-Rose. We are proof of things turning around. We went through garbage years, then a couple years of making the playoffs with early exits, but were not a major threat until we drafted Rose. We are now, once again, one of the big boys.

I also think that if your current players would have treated Lebron like the enemy instead of a best buddy during that December 2nd game, you guys would be better off right now. I still can't understand why your guys kissed his a** in that game.

Hang in there, Cavs fans.

A couple years ago, Bulls fans were hyping up how much better than they Cavs that they were. Of course, they never had the wins to prove it.

The best way to describe the last few months is to say that the Cavs have suffered through a long institutional depression. I think that they are coming out of it, but they just don't have the firepower to overcome bad patches that they go through in just about every game. Even yesterday, they made a 5 pt lead turn into a 7 pt deficit in a little over a minute. This happens every game and I think it's largely because they expect it to.

Thanks for your concern, but I am alright. Watching this team is rough but it wont last forever. And yes, this thread is about coach Scott, I was trying to let a certain poster know we appreciated his "input". And yes, after 7 years we know how great a basketball player lecon is. And most if not all concede that he could do whatever he wanted. I agree about not making hasty decisions in reagrds to trades and draft, so we agree there also.
