What value does he have to your rebuilding franchise? Would CLE look to dump his huge contract? What plans are in store for him?

at the very least he has value as a large expiring. Although, I think he still has teh ability to fill it up. So I could see a contender wanting him. I don't really see the Cavs trying to dump him however unless they get something back at least not until after the trade deadline.

There's no reason to "dump" an expiring.

Hopefully he will be used to acquire a bad contract with a pick. Other than that, he doesn't really have any value.

I'm not sure we'll be able to deal him to a contender at the deadline given cap matching rules, but we'll try to move him in exchange for a longer contract someone else doesn't want - the Granger/Iggy concept. Most likely we won't find a buyer and just let him walk at the end of the season. Cap space is near.

the whole "trading for overpaid players" idea should've died when LBJ left unless they are coming with an asset.

I could see us buying Jamison out midseason if we don't trade him.

Yeah, I'm with Nirvana. We'll likely cut him loose at the trade deadline and let him try to hook up with a team that might want him for a playoff run.

Granger and Iggy would be great if he can be had like that basiclly for free (free in terms of assets not money obviously)

Davis and Brand are basically a wash...with Philly saving 4 million over the length of Brands contract versus the length Davis's.

It works out quite well as it opens up space for Sessions to be kept and used as the backup PG.

It also allows us to keep the TPE which could be used to acquire gay.


Final Roster (after draft) would look something like:

C: AV/Kanter
PF: Brand/Hickson
SF: Andre/???
SG: Gay/Gibson
PG: Irving/Sessions

To me that is a playoff caliber roster.

Personally, I think we have to dump Jamison pretty quickly so that he doesn't amke our team "too good".

Ie we need another year of sucking and a high draft pick to lay a good foundation. Jamison may carry us into the 9-13 range of the lottery and blow a shot at a impact player for us.

The Sacromento queens tried that as did the trailblazers. It doesn't work.

There's just too much chance of an flameout. Plus as much as the NBA like to promote itself as a young star driven league. Its the veteran teams like the spurs, mavericks, celtics, lakers that make it deep into the playoffs every year.

There may not have been many championship teams built like that (outside of the Spurs who actually were built through the draft), but we dont have a lot of other options. The Thunder are also well on there way of being perennial contenders and they were built nearly entirely through the draft as well.

We arent going to be able to get anyone of significance to come in through free agency so that is out of the picture.

Boston got to where they are by drafting well and then being able to turn those young guys into Garnett and Allen. While you're right that we cant focus 100% on the draft, I think that is more of a long opinion. We HAVE to focus on the draft for the next 2 to 3 years and then we can look to turn some of our young assets into guys that will put us over the top.

So they have to go the OKC/SAS small market route and go for the draft.
