Cavs, Pistons, T-Wolves 3-Team Trade
Cavs, Pistons, Twolves discussing 3-team trade that would give Cavs 1st & 2nd picks, sources say.
Cavs absorb Rip Hamilton into 14.6 mill trade exception & get Det's 8th pick. Cavs send 4th & 8th picks to Minny for 2nd pick
Cavs would then draft Kyrie No. 1 and Derrick Williams No. 2. Nothing imminent but trade us being discussed by the teams.

I honestly believe the cavs would trade jamison for rip and the pick... we got baron and the first to save lac 9 million and trading jamison for rip would give them the better player and save them 10 million...seriously id rather just keep 1,4, and 8... i really dont see minn taking d will, but if they do il be happy with a irving, kanter, leonard/hamilton/or some sf to build around around... then trade sessions to port for their pick...

Broussard isn't the most reliable guy around, but this trade is fairly plausible.
I'm not totally sure I'd give up both to get #2 though. Kinda tempted to just take Kanter/Jonas at #4 then maybe Burks or something at #8.

Agreed. Maybe 4 and Andy for the 2nd? Not that I am in a hurry to move Andy, but I have read on the Minny board that they have interest in him.
In that case Irving, Williams or Kanter at 2 and Burks at 8 if he is still there. Maybe then if we are in a hurry to improve we try to do Antawn and maybe a Miami pick for Iggy possibly.
Lineup then looks something like this:
PG Baron/Irving/Sessions/Gibson
SG Burks/Manny/Eyenga
SF Iggy/Gee/Harangody
PF Williams/Samuels .......................or Hickson/Samuels
C Hickson/Erden/Hollins ................or Kanter/Erden/Hollins
Obviously we would be PG heavy so Sessions and or Gibson could be moved for future picks or with one of our seconds to move back up for a project C if we go with Williams.

All these trade up scenarios are pretty sweet for the Wolves. I think Varejao +4 for the 2nd pick is over paying to get another PF for the 2nd pick. The CAVs need quantity of quality. Keeping the 4 and 8 would be my choice over this ESPN leaked trade proposal. I wouldn't mind the CAVs getting Burks at 8.

I would love this trade! our precious TPE will probably end up just expiring unless we pull the trigger... remember, what sounds good to us may not sound good to other teams, and honestly I think this trade is actually weighted pretty heavily in our favor...I will be honest though... With one and two I take Irving and Kanter...no doubt..the SF crop in 2012 is MUCH better...getting Williams would make me give up on my dream up teaming Irving and Barnes back up on the same team, since they're good friends and all. Irving and Kanter gives us our two most important/difficult to fill positions in one quick sweep, and both players are very talented...and honestly there isn't another decent C prospect until 2013 draft and even that is if they are one and dones..

Getting 3 1sts, or even just moving up from #4, would be a very good start to the rebuild. That doesn't mean the team should get impatient and still look into Iggy, Granger, etc type trades because they just aren't really what the team needs.
It'd be better to just try to use Jamison to get another bad contract + pick (sorta like teh Baron trade), maybe consider moving Hickson if Williams is playing lots at the 4, and then look forward to another top 10 pick in a strong 2012 draft.
As far as keeping #4 and #8, I'm really torn. This team really needs an infusion of talent and getting the consensus 2 best prospects would be nice. Then again, I'm not AS high on Williams as most others, and I'd like to get one of the Euro centers. If the Cavs want to pick #1 and #2 to get the top 2 guys on their board, I think I could support that and just hope they're right. It's an interesting decision for sure though.
[btw, that starting lineup you have would have like no spacing, lol]
No. Their core is beyond awful. They need to be getting the best players possible.rjgraca wrote:All these trade up scenarios are pretty sweet for the Wolves. If they think the dropoff between Williams and Jonas/Kanter isn't that significant, then not trading for #2 could be a different story....
Keep in mind that even if they did do the trade and take Williams, that doesn't necessarily mean they have to keep him.Kaner wrote:I would love this trade! our precious TPE will probably end up just expiring unless we pull the trigger... remember, what sounds good to us may not sound good to other teams, and honestly I think this trade is actually weighted pretty heavily in our favor...I will be honest though... The Cavs are going to suck next year so the draftees should get lots of playing time. If Williams can put up good stats and the Cavs are in love with one of the 2012 prospects, trading D-Will might not be all that bad of an idea.
Of course that's contingent on his success in his rookie yr, and the Cavs thoughts on the SFs available in 2012....but it's a possibility to consider.

Fwiw, the Pistons beat writers have said there is not truth to this - it's in the Pistons' forum. Rip will be an expiring after one more season.

Not if players are thrown in.

Piston fan here. The news is that DP won't do it unless other players are thrown in. There are only 2 names that might be remotely possible, Johnny flynn or Jamison. I'm not that high on either. I'd rather take some type of later pick, a protected future 1st or a couple of 2nds future or now.

I like this trade proposal...I am a big Derrick Williams fan. We would have quite an athletic/young core.
We would need to find a way to move Baron Davis, would like to get Irving starting minutes right away.

Just out of curiosity, why those 2 names? Flynn I could understand, but Jamison? He's like 34...BigDaddyJungle wrote:Piston fan here. e: and why not Sessions? He's a young PG too.

Pistons fan here. This trade sucks for us. If it was Ben Gordon and #8 for Flynn and #20 via Minnesota, then I am listening. The Pistons might as well keep Rip as he will have value as an expiring in just one season.

Jamison, was just a quick thought. I'm not sure, but he fits a need and he's almost off the cap. So like a rental. Sessions is more of a combo guy. We have combo guys. Not sure of his contract, but I could see him thrown in and us throw some slug into match price like Jason Maxiell.

Re: Cavs, Pistons, T-Wolves 3-Team Trade
Sensible trade for the Cavs. They are capped out through 2012 and at least under the current CBA could still play around in the 2013 free agent market with Hamilton's contract on their books. Derrick Williams would really need to be as advertised though since the Cavs are spending three valulable assets to get him: the #4 pick, their trade exception and a lot of 2013 cap space.
Not sure why the Wolves would do this. While Williams plays the same position as Love and Beasley I think the Wolves need to seriously consider moving Beasley. They could slot Williams in at the 3. This draft is so shallow that they are only going to get players not good players at 4 and 8 and they already have players.
This would be a terrible deal for the Pistons. Giving up the #8 pick for essentially nothing would be horrendous on the fans.

Re: Cavs, Pistons, T-Wolves 3-Team Trade
First, this is a great deal for the Pistons. A $12.65 mil TPE - after we find out what the new CBA is - is far from "nothing." Even if they never used it, they would have moved rip and sold the 8 for a savings of $27 million dollars.
Second, I was questioning it for the Wolves also. but others convinced me it was OK. If the Jazz pick a PG at 3, then Kanter should be available at 4. They may try for the hyped Biyombo, Burks, or more likely, use the pick to bring in a veteran. I agree Beasley could be traded if MIN wants to roll with Williams, but they probably can't get the trade value (despite his 19 PPG) he'd be worth to them, with the slim chance he makes good on his upside.
It's an expensive move for the Cavs, but it could work out for them. The TPE expires in about a week, and while the Cavs are adding a ton of salary, you'd have to think the marketing department loves the idea of "New Beginnings" with the two most exciting players in the draft.
Despite what some fans have to say on these boards, I think this is a very legitimate idea, and something I could see all three teams doing.

Just wanted to point out that you're wrong about the TPE's expiration date. It expires on July 10th. Since the lockout will begin on July 1st and cut the TPE ~10 days short, they are trying to get an extension too.
I think it's a legitimate idea too, though. It might need some tweaking, but the framework outlined is a pretty good start.
BTW - Jonas V would be a pretty good pick at #4 if Kanter is gone too.
