With you drafting Irving do you want to keep Sessions? And if not what would it take to get him?

Dallas trades Trade exception and 2nd round pick for Sessions

He is definitely available but I think he should be able to gather a higher price than that. The Trade Exception doesnt really matter to the Cavs since the owner is never afraid to take on salary and Dallas' second rounder is next to worthless.

Im actually thinking Sessions could net a late first round pick, with his peak return the Knicks pick.

as I said on the trade board, that Dallas second is not really incentive, it's as close to worthless as it get's in the NBA.

Does Sessions really have any use if the ball isn't in his hands? He's a heck of a player with it, but next to a Kobe Bryant what does he do if Kobe has the ball and isn't playing a post-up or off ball role?

I'm not sure that question makes any sense. Sure he's not a shooter and he becomes less of a threat if he doesn't have the ball, but he still needs to be guarded and he'd still be effective provided the team he was playing for had a normal offense.

It makes plenty of sense. If you have two big men and a primary ball-handler you're going to have two guys most likely on the wings. If Sessions is one of those guys he could be a major liability because he is just so putrid from three-point range.

Sessions value is playing purely with the ball in his hands constantly. That really limits his value. That said with the ball in his hands with two good big men and solid shooters he'd be a heck of a player.

Okay then, he is not a good fit with a player like Kobe. I dont recall anyone here suggesting that we trade him to the Lakers. What exactly was your point anyway? There are a few teams like Portland or possibly NY that have some interest in Sessions, thats where we should be (and probably are) looking to move him if there is a decent return.

Price only has a $750k contract and can be cut outright or compete for 3rd string PG spot. Jones gives you a solid defender and depth at the SG spot. Jones could easily be a nice 7th/8th man in your rotation. Also, only has a couple years left on his deal.

Thoughts?

I don't think Sessions alone can net a 1st round pick. But I'm convinced that Cleveland will trade Sessions and their 2nd to a team like Houston for the 23rd and say Jordan Hill. Maybe not that, but something like that.

I wouldnt mind that at all. Can we swap or 54th for 42nd this year in this deal? I have always thought Jones was a good role player and he would fill a need like you said. In fact he might actually start on this squad in the coming season if we did this deal.

Except Jones makes $3 mil a year for the next two years, is 3o y.o. and couldn't stay in the mighty Pacers rotation. This is the same as a salary dump, won't win the cavs any more games. If salary dump is what you want, then may as well get an expiring out of it...

I'm a fan but I don't think my team is a good fit trade wise for him. We have Turiaf's expiring which you wouldn't want unless we included a Landry Fields or possibly a Toney Douglas which we are in no position to deal (due to our own depth, or rather lack of, concerns) unless you took Balkman, which I'm sure you don't want. And even then we jeopardize our chance at CP3 or D12 in 2012. Point being I don't think we'd be the best trading partners but I think that Sessions should be moved while his value is high before he is relegated to third string point guard and his numbers dip across the board.

trade him to the celtics for 25 or port for 21 whatever team wants it...

After getting rid of Baron Davis I honestly think we'll keep Sessions. Unless Irving has a really big break out season and shows he can carry most (if not all) of the minutes at PG then Sessions will probably stay.

If we did move him though I would love to see it for a SG. That way Gibson can get more minutes as a backup PG. The only problem is he really doesn't have a crazy amount of value on his own. I think Sessions would be part of a bigger deal.
