Does anyone know what picks the Cavs will have next year (i.e. who else's in addition to their own)? How about for 2013?

I had been hoping the Cavs would trade up this year to snag both Irving and Williams, then have multiple top 5 picks next year, too (hopefully top 2).

In addition to their own lottery pick in 2012, it's perhaps possible for the Cavs to turn their other assets (TPE, Jamison's expiring contract, Hickson, AV, later picks, willingness to take on bad contract) into 2 more lottery picks next season. So perhaps they could have 3 top 5 picks in 2012.

I think we will have a top 5 pick of our own next year, and probably a later first as well. I look for us to target a wing scorer like Barnes or Beal.

Whoa, pump the brakes a little. Obviously not being able to move any of our "assets" and get back into the first round this year shows how teams around the league value the players on the roster at the end of this past season. I doubt seriously we turn any of the players mentioned into a top 5 pick in any draft let alone next years that is supposed to be loaded.
I would hope we can pick top 3 based on our record and maybe pick up another first next year, but its doubtful it would be anywhere near top ten. I hope I'm wrong and we get a couple high picks but I'm not holding ny breath.

JJ probably fetches a first rounder but IF we deal him its likely not going to be until the deadline and the 'buyers' at that point will be good teams meaning its probably not going to net a 2012 lottery pick.
Given our extreme luck with the Clippers I can't imagine a scenario where we could aquire a lottery pick without significant protection attached either.
We likely end up with one top ten - our own.

Interesting that Barnes is being projected as the top prospect next year. When still in consideration this year he wasn't considered the top prospect. Doesn't that mean that 2012's draft is weaker than than this years at the top?, lol. Afterall we're talking about the ranking of guys as prospects not their current level of play.

Isn't Barnes being ranked #1 in the 2012 draft based off of one scout's thoughts after watching Barnes workout with Durant one on one?...

As far as acquiring another 2012 1st is concerned, I would be looking at potential playoff teams that own a pick from a possible lottery team.

-Boston owns LAC 2012 1st (top 10 protection)
-Chicago owns CHA 2012 1st (top 14 protection)
-Houston owns NYK 2012 1st (top 5 protection)*
-Los Angelas Clippers owns MIN 2012 1st
-New Jersey owns HOU 2012 1st (top 14 protection)
-Utah owns GSW 2012 1st (top 7 protection)

Harrison Barnes would be the ideal player for us next year. Or Drummond if he comes out, we need either a wing player or a center...If we were able to get another late lotto pick and steal Jeremy Lamb too, that would be amazing...

Barnes was barely projected in the top five in this draft earlier in the year (of course that was when other prospects like Sullingers and the Jones were supposed to be there). I don't see why his value would skyrocket to one in a supposedly much stronger draft next year.

Barnes is a projected top pick because he was dreadful for the first half of the year, but by the time the season was finished he was a top player in the acc. He improved a ton and showed a very well roundded game. If he continues to show that improvement next year he will be in the race for player of the year, and he has a pro style game and a great attitude.

only once before has there ever been a lock out for an entire season. This happened to the NHL in 2004-05. You might wonder how they handled the draft entry because there was no season to base a draft order on.

The league settled on a lottery system in which all teams had a weighted chance at the first pick. The lottery was tilted so teams with fewer playoff appearances over the last three seasons and fewer number one overall picks over the last four seasons had a better chance of landing higher picks. The complete order was determined by the lottery, and the 2005 draft was conducted in a "snake" style, meaning in even rounds, the draft order was reversed. This system was an attempt to compromise between those who felt all teams should have had an equal chance at the first pick and those who felt only the weaker teams should have been in the running.

The only good thing about that is that we have the right to swap 1st rounders with the Heat next year if it comes to that. Plus we would have a shot at getting the Kings pick if they got a low enough pick.

Don't mean to be rude, but that's Angels in the Outfield type stuff right there. I doubt the Cavs would draft Anthony Davis or a PF because they just drafted Tristan Thompson. Jared Sullinger isn't a Center. If Andre Drummond's stock continues to rise and he enters the 2012 draft and the Cavs have the opportunity to draft him, I assume they would. Drummond isn't a lock to be a superstar though, so I don't know about drafting him. Do you take the risk or go after someone that you know is going to be great like Brad Beal or Austin Rivers?

God it pisses me off that we aren't going to have basketball this year.
