Who's gonna score?

Post#1 » by tidho » Wed Nov 30, 2011 10:09 pm

Pulled this out of another thread....

'would be'?
Will be. We're going to see that in a couple weeks, lol.

Which begs the question, who's going to score on this team?
Manny Harris is the only real SG and the 3, 4, and 5 spots could very well be occupied by guys that can't get their own. They all move well so Kyrie and Baron will definately have to be running the show to get anything going, but who on this team is going to score?

Also on that note, GS Free Agent Reggie Williams might be an interesting option. Totally lacking defensively, which is what makes him affordable, but he's got reasonable size and can fill it up. He's just been buried behind a ton of talent in GS.

I thought you understood that we were going to be awful this year?

Irving and Jamison will be our leading scorers.

Davis
Gibson
Casspi
Jamison
AV

I would think these would be the starters with most of the scoring from Davis-Jamison-Casspi in that group. Expect Andy to get some layups and Gibson to hit threes

Subs coming in

Irving
Sessions
Eyenga
TT

Irving and Sessions will get theirs.

But yes Outlaw stated - we are supposed to suck

Probably Jamison.. If/when he gets moved then I guess Irving. But it doesnt matter, lets focus on getting that lottery pick.

Irving, Casspi, and Baron Davis , and Jamison can score, and Gee and Boobie are a couple bench guys that can score...but yeah, I expect us to be pretty bad so who even cares haha...let us be thankful we got a legit point guard out of a terrible draft from a pick we didn't even originally own...no knock on TT here, but imagine how gloom things would look had we not gotten that LAC pick. We'd be talking about the potential of a Mo/TT pick and roll. Yikes.

Isn't this the Cleveland MO, who is going to score? I expect quite a few scoring droughts this season, but I am hoping we can fix that with the draft this year, go to scorer or bust.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

I do realize we plan on stinking up the joint, and that we'll likely target a prime scorer with the resulting draft pick (someone in Carolina blue perhaps).

Still they want to sell some tickets this year and I don't see anyone on this roster that's a lock to score more than 13 a game. It doesn't have to be a good player, but we need to add a scorer - Lamond Murray type guy. Still lose, but lose close, lol.

More than 13 a game? Maybe Baron or Jamison I guess, depending on their shot attempts per game. But both of them could/should be gone by the trade deadline so.....

Irving?

Cavs are gonna score like every other Scott coached team, and thats by letting the point guard create every single scoring opportunity for the team.

But hey, its a point guard league, right?

I think Byron wants to solidify the defensive end, tho. Create more of an uptempo team that can quickly turn the floor over on turnovers and play downhill on secondary breaks and such. With Irving and TT, I think Scott feels he's defensively upgraded at those two positions. And when you consider AV and Eyenga are +defenders, offense is sorta on the back burner for now.

I think its imperative TT become a 13-16 ppg 11 rpg 2+ bpg player with outstanding man defense ability. I can't reiterate this enough.

I just don't know if that's possible. With Irving, he can get half of that via transition, but man, his free throw % is going to kill the team. I mean, he's so good at drawing fouls that its going to be a gift and curse when he's on the floor. Anything less than 70% from the line and TT becomes a liability in late game situations.

TT ultimately has to be a legit 2nd or 3rd option. He has an explosive first step and plays above the rim. It has been a while since we have had a big guy like that. I actually think he does better than Hickson does in Sac this year

wait what?

your use of 'ultimately' makes it look like you're talking long-term but then you say you think he does better than Hickson this year.

i sure hope it's not the former...

I know we all hate JJ and he had empty stats but:

Last 2 and half months of the season:

18.4ppg and 11.5rpg - Feb
15.5ppg and 10rpg - Mar
19.5ppg and 12.3rpg - Apr

All in the last 34 games of the year.

If Sac goes into suck mode and Cousins gets benched, its not too far fetched that JJ will get similar numbers.

I don't think anyone would be shocked if JJ managed 15&10 this year. That is way too high an expectation for Tristan Thompson.

Well we are not on the same boat. JJ is not consistent enough to average a double double. I am sure that most of his points will come from put backs and garbage buckets. If anything DeMarcus Cousins will probably be the one to manage 15 and 10.

As for TT, I was thinking he would average around an 8 and 6.

I wouldn't be shocked if JJ averaged 15 and 10. I would however be shocked if JJ could do anything efficiently or do anything to help a team become better when hes on the floor.

TT will not put up the same stats per minute that Hickson did, but I would be he impacts the game much much better.
