I posted this on the General Forum's discussion on this topic, but wanted to post it here as well:

First of all: Dan Gilbert is such a boss.

For those like J-Rich talking about how no players will ever go play for Cleveland now... What players were choosing to come to Cleveland before? LOL Im a die hard Cavs fan, but Im well aware that nobody with a choice will choose to play for the Cavs unless they way overpay. So why would Gilbert care about offending the "stars" of the league.

Besides, everyone was in an uproar after Gilbert's Decision response, including Kyle Lowry who really ripped into Gilbert via Twitter. Guess what happened one week later.... Lowry signed an offer sheet with the Cavs. You know why? Because the Cavs were offering the most amount of money at the time. The almighty dollar remains the driving force for 98% of the league.

Gotta love Gilbert sticking up yet again, for not only his own team and city, but also the majority of teams and cities, and flat out not caring what anyone thinks about it.

Preach on DG.

What he said in his letter is not wrong whether you were for or against the trade. It would have been highly entertaining to see Paul get traded to the Lakers, but seeing how they would save so much money without needing to give up any picks or youth while acquiring one of the best players in the league makes it arbitrary for the rest of the league. Not to mention, the Dwight Howard situation..

How do letters like this get leaked? It almost seems like Gilbert is letting them loose on purpose. I, for one, would respect an owner that cares this much about their team and the on goings of the league.

^apparently didn't read the OP, lol.

Gilbert, btw, isn't the only owner to complain about the deal. He's just the only owner to throw in the truth hurts line aboue the Washington Generals.

....btw, I'm smelling a marketing opportunity with that one. Globetrotters are in town later this month.

He is mad, and ignorant as ****. Gilbert did not even own the Cavs when they drafted LeBron.

1) Why the ,.? When does that ever happen in any English class?

2) Because

3) Overall: Capitalization. You seem to believe that the beginning of sentences don't need a capital letter. While 'free agent' and 'no' does.

4) Actually, Dan Gilbert took the Cavaliers to the finals for the first time ever. We've had record breaking seasons in terms of wins. One player doesn't win you that many games. Just look at New Orleans.

5) I think trading Mo Williams for Baron Davis and the number one pick in the NBA draft is a pretty good trade. I mean it's just the first overall pick in the draft, no big deal or anything...

6) Shaq announced retirement.

I feel bad for the Cleveland Cavaliers because of the owner's insistence on not knowing when to close his mouth. I don't understand why Dan Gilbert would even care about CP3 going out west. If the Cavs were to make it to the Finals they would have to go up against star players regardless. So you don't have to go up against CP3/Howard/Bryant well congrats you have to go up against KD/Westbrook/Harden/Ibaka/Perkins. Inequality is just not going to happen when you have people who want warm weather places to be their place of residence. It's called life.

*Not Trying to Troll*
The success in the NBA is ultimately about making decisions. Dan Gilbert reportedly had a chance to trade for Amare and all he had to do was give up JJ Hickson and whatever else. You didn't so now you had your chance at getting the 1st pick in the draft... and you got the first pick in the draft. Now you have a chance to go out and pair what some call the next CP3 with Anthony Davis or some other stud in college. GO OUT AND DO IT. People will stay in situations where they believe they have a chance to win.

If Miami/NJ/New York/LA have all the stars then what's going to happen to then next superstar.... they are going to have to go to another team to make money. And if they don't want to take that money and want to sign for less in order to play somewhere else then so be it. STOP TRYING TO BE 30 GODS and be 30 owners

Not trying to troll? You'd think it'd be easier to avoid. Man I hate posters that have an agenda and still post without knowing the correct information. It's just stupid to believe that the Cavs wouldn't have given up Hickson to get Amare, but these idiots keep mentioning it like it was true. Idiots

I really like Dan Gilbert. Im glad he allowed them to shoot themselves in the foot. Plus he saved the Rockets from making a mistake.
The Lakers got screwed and looked like jerks and traitors to Gasol and Odom. Their chemistry is officially dead so he destroyed that market.
Chris Paul is very overated and hasnt done much since being injured and has been a prima dona so Im glad he doesnt get what he wants and is now crying about it looking like a spoiled buffoon to everyone.
As for Gasol I hope he gets traded to somewhere that doesnt treat him like garbage.

Dan Gilbery you rock.

Laker Fan here, I don't think Gilbert has the clout to stop a trade like this, and it is cool for him to come forward and speak from his heart, just like he did during the James deal.

I think outspoken owners like him and Cuban are what America is all about, it keeps things real...!

Now if that hurts the Team in the eyes of prospective players, well he will have to deal with that, but we all know players are motavated by money and as long as his checks do not bounce, the Team will be fine.

So, no, I don't blame him at all, he was probably saying what a lot of owners were thinking.

I am mixed as to if this was a good trade for the Lakers or not, we played our BEST Basketball with Odom & Pau on the Floor and they did/do things Paul can't do...

I have to say that respect Gilbert for speaking his mind. I really have to question how these letters get out to the media, I mean if this stuff is meant for the media wouldnt Dan just send it out in a press release?
As for the deal, I didnt mind it as it was, who was going to actually play in the front court for the Lakers if Pau and Lamar were moved? Bynum? He can only play one position at a time, and usually for only 50 or so games a year at that. I guess the plan must have been to pick up amnesty cuts to fill those positions. I know they have Character but is he even of starting caliber at this point?
If they redo the deal I hope LA has to give up at least a couple firsts though, just because I am not a Laker fan and want to see them make an even worse deal.

I dont understand why hes getting a bad rep for this. Can someone explain why he is? Hes a part owner of the Hornets and was protecting an investment.

Because people against him love the Heat or the Lakers

I feel the Lakers did give up enough for Paul, I just don't trust the NOH management, they get nothing worth selling the team on in the present and future.

They can trade Gasol and Odom and get back youth and picks, and save money. Martin, Scola, Odom, LA 2012 pick doesn't accomplish this.

I'm just concerned that he just ENSURED we will never get a good FA...I know historically they have never liked coming here anyway, but if we built a nice core and had a good PG that made players look better a la Nash, I just hope this doesn't come back to bite us in the ass. I love that he's not afraid of people hating on him, and speaks his mind. But seriously, does he just click "send all" every time or WHAT! It's just a bummer to have the best talent in the league look down on your franchise, because guys like Kyrie and TT look up to the CP3's and D12's of the league...
