Do you guys plan on trading Varejao?

He seems like he'd be a nice mentor to Thompson, but it also seems like he could fetch decent value because he's a pretty good player. What feeling do you get about his availability?

Don't see why they'd be looking to move him. He can play, he isn't old, and his contract is long but not obnoxious.
He's a fan favorate, appears to like it here, is a very good degender, and plays multiple positions providing flexibility.

Cleveland would move him if the right deal came along. With the contracts that have been thrown out to big men this offseason, Varejao has a very reasonable contract. Cleveland is also not looking to save money, so a deal would likely need to consist of a high pick and a contract or a nice young prospect and a contract.

Yes I totally see the Cavs looking to move him. It would have to be for young prospects or, more likely, a 1st round draft pick or picks if the picks are later firsts. Theres no reason to trade him unless they get that deal though.

Varejao is not fetching a lottery pick.... period.
Maybe you can get a young SG prospect that a contending team is unhappy with or doesn't want to pay.

No one mentioned getting a lottery pick for Varejao.

I think we should certainly entertain the idea of moving Varejao if we can strengthen our position in the very strong 2012 NBA draft. There probably will be at least a half dozen playoff teams at the deadline that could use his services. A pick 10-18 range would be ideal, but with what attached, I dunno.
Like people have said, there is nothing about his contract, age, or game that makes him someone who must be dealt, but there will definitely be suitors and I'm sure we'll be picking up the phone and listening to offers.

Andy is a proven talent that gives 100% and is locked up long term. I wouldn't deal him for anythin worse than a pick in the 10-15 range...so yep I'm talking lottery pick - although protection would be expected.
Half of the 1st rounders pretty much amount to nothing. To take on that risk the pick needs to be of higher value even if you hope to get a similar talent in the 15-20 range.

Andy to Philly for their 2012 pick - #19 pick
Sac makes the playoffs - #15 pick
Cavs get the 2nd pick in the draft
Jeremy Lamb at the #2
Package 15 and 19 for a Utah pick which should be 11 or 12
Pray Austin Rivers is there at 11 or 12
Irving
Rivers
Lamb
Thompson
???

How about Wesley Matthews, Marcus Camby (ending contract) and Luke Babbit for Varejao and Jamison?

No. Just....no.
Cavs should move Varejao but I do not think they will because they will have ridiculous expectations wrt his value.

Cavs didn't get Irving for Mo and Moon. They got a 2.8% chance at Kyrie for Mo and Moon.

Why move in draft for Austin Rivers when he could be possible at 15. In fact, why take Austin Rivers anyway? We don't need an overrated/undersized shooting guard with attitude problem. I'd rather have 15th and 19th in the next year draft over moving up couple spots.

Well Varejao is a better player than Mo Williams and he netted a top 10 pick.

The Cavs also absorbed a washed-up overpaid Baron Davis and that draft was significantly worse than the upcoming draft. That trade was for financial purposes, not to get Mo Williams.
AV will not net a lottery pick next year.

Why couldn't we take a lotto pick if we were taking on salary?

I suppose we could get into the lottery trading Andy if we absorbed a big salary, but I think the teams that are likely to be interested in Andy are playoff type teams that are looking for interior defense and hustle.
Andy isnt a building block/cornerstone type of player, he is the kind of player you want to add to a superstar driven team, or a team with a very solid core of players who need the garbage man to do the dirty work for them. Thats why he isnt likely to bring a lottery pick back imo.
