2012 NBA Draft Thread

Once again, happy new years to everyone. I am sure that 2012 will be a much better year for us.

Post all draft talks in here so we dont have Steely Reserve making numerous threads about Perry Jones. ;) The 2012 draft will be a couple of days after the NBA Finals I believe. I am sure most of us are hoping for Andre Drummond, especially Kaner. But there are a bunch of other great prospects as well (Anthony Davis, Jeremy Lamb, Harrison Barnes, Jared Sullinger, etc.)

I really like both Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Andre Drummond... getting one of them would help our team immensely

We're looking mighty competative. Not sure top 5 is going to happen. Its early of course in the college season, but I'm still on the Harrison Barnes band wagon. He's probably not a top 3 and would fit in really nicely.

beating bad teams =! mighty competitive

lets not forget about last years start...

still hate the barnes pick unless it's somehow in the 10-14 range which won't happen because some team will buy into the hype (which has been just that - hype, no follow through)

Should be a strong draft to come if everybody that should enter the draft indeed do so. Names I like: Mike Kidd-Gilchrist. He reminds me of a younger Scottie Pippen. I'm not too sold on Drummond yet. He may have Perry Jones syndrome. I'm still not sold on Harrison Barnes. He doesn't scream elite SF. Seems like a less athletic and taller Brandon Roy. Sully is undersized and although I think he'll be productive in the league, I don't think he'll be a top 5 pf in the league. Anthony Davis at this point seems like Marcus Camby redux. That would be enough for me to take him high because he still has lots of room to grow. I wouldn't mind Terrence Jones either. He seems like he would have a higher ceiling than Lamar Odom. Perry Jones is now figuring it out. Last year I was oppose to him. This year I wouldn't mind him. I'm a Duke Fan but idk if Austin Rivers would be a good fit in Cleveland. I'm kinda on the fence with Jeremy Lamb. I'm curious to see everybody else's early impressions.

The good news for the fans of tanking, is that we have played 3 of the worst teams in the league and have 2 wins. Lets wait until we start playing some better teams and those loooong road trips start having their effect on all of these young guys. I have a feeling we'll hit a wall and start dropping games pretty regularly.

All my opinions:

MKG is solid but I do not think he will be a game changer. Solid defender though
Drummond: I am with you. He needs to work on his post game another year
Barnes: Catch and shoot guy which in some offenses may work. We need another creator with KI
Davis: Agree - and see Drummond
T. Jones - Never been a fan. He is tweener that is too slow to play SF and too thin to play PF
PJ3 - I like him. Has an inside outside game and just needs to work on ballhandling
Rivers - I like him as well. Not a top 5 pick but solid
Lamb - probably my favorite. Can score from the wing which is our greatest need.
Sullinger - I am a Buckeye Fan but I hate his game on how it translates to the NBA

The Cavs need a 2 or 3 that can score peroid. Now If Drummond is available for them then i grab the Center but other than that we need a 2 or 3 that can put the ball in the hoop. I like Lamb although he is quite frail and narrow shoulders so will not fill out too much more. I like Barnes but do not know if he will be that top scorer or teams will worry about. I also like Beal from Florida he can plain old stroke it like Ray Allen. Its a deep draft and hopefully the Cavs can find a way to swing another 1st rounder somehow even if its lower. I do not think we will see that Kings pick this year at all.

My big board as of now:

1. Andre Drummond
2. Trade down with a team wanting to move up for Anthony Davis, we don't need him but he will be worth a lot in a trade
3. Michael Kidd Gilchrist
4. Perry Jones III
6. Bradley Beal
7. Jeremy Lamb
8. Terrance Ross
9. Harrison Barnes
10. Meyers Leonard

Although Drummond would obviously be the best big man for us, I'm starting to really like the idea of
Lamb or Kidd-Gilchrist...the only thing that concerns me about Gilchrist is that he is not the sharpest offensive tool, and ideally we would get a dynamic scoring wing player. Lamb's wingspan, handles, and outside shot put him higher than Gilchrist on our priority list for me at least.
1.Drummond
2.Lamb
3.Davis
4.Gilchrist
5.Jones III
6.Barnes
7.Meyers Leonard
8.Sullinger
9.Beal
10.Henson

I pretty much agree with the above.

There are pobably 6 out of the top 10 guys that look to be really nice fits for us.
Barnes, Lamb, or K-G at the top of my list.

We just need to be in the range of top 8 to make sure we get one, and I'm getting a little nervous about that. We're going to beat some good teams soon.

could you imagine how much hustle and scrappiness an MKG-TT-AV front court would have?

Would it be any worse than AV-TT-Casspi?

not when it comes to shooting.

Shooters are the easiest thing in the NBA to find. Finding a guy with his all around game is incredibly difficult. Irving is a good shooter, and it shouldn't be hard finding a good shooting 2 guard and some bench shooters. Thats all you need.
