Do you guys think he has a decent chance at making it? I would like to see my favorite player make it to an all-star game at least once. I'd personally take him over any C in the east not named Dwight Howard.

It is going to be tough for Andy, but he deserves serious consideration. Chandler is shooting something like 70% which is ridiculous, but since he is in NY, he will be favored to get in even though they are struggling. Hibbert has similar stats and Indy is winning so that hurts Andy's chances as well.
I would love to see him go though, just to reward a hustle player that is deserving and is the opposite of some of the entitled superstar types that the AS game is usually filled with. And, it would be nice to be able to say AV, All Star to all the people on this site that say he is just a flopper.

As much as I think Andy deserves the recognition, it's an uphill climb for him against Hibbert and Chandler (Wow, 70.8% FG... that's nuts. Does he score at all besides off lobs?) Voters don't get to see what Andy does day to day, and that's how you really appreciate his impact. He's been putting up some big numbers lately, but I still don't think it will be enough.

As a Knicks fan who has seen a lot of Chandler, I could definitely say that Varejao is a better player than Chandler. The majority of Chandler's points come off of dunks so that 70% fg pct really isn't that impressive to me. The difference between them is that Varejao is better at doing the little things (keeping the ball alive, frustrating opposing players, drawing charges, putting a hand up, etc). It's amazing to me that Cleveland's record is better than NY's right now and I know that a lot of it has to do with the energy and competitive spirit that Varejao brings to your team. I haven't seen a lot of Hibbert, but it looks like he's the favorite to be the backup C in the east because of Indiana's record. Lets hope most of the coaches think like Doc Rivers and vote Varejao in.

Those "little things" don't get players AS bids, though. Right or wrong, the ASG is more or less a popularity contest comprised of players who put up big numbers in the basic stat categories.

Truthfully, I don't care either way. If he makes it and that makes some dumb team give even just a little more via trade, then sweet.

Building a legitimate contender is more important to me than getting players in the ASG, especially this year.

Much politics by the last selections and I'm sure the most popular players will be selected. Noah plays in Chicago and has a lot more wins even though he's personally struggled this year and Varejao clearly has been better I'm pretty sure he's got a better chance. Chandler might as well have a better chance even if that Knicks team should have plenty more wins with their players.

Intangibles are called intangibles for a reason. I mean they are important, but how will you compare them to each other? You say Varejao is better at frustrating opposing players, I say Chandler is one of the great teammates to have while still being a serious player. You give me Drawing charges I give you the Knicks emergence as a top 10 defensive team as far as DRTG goes. It is what it is, at the end of the day IF the knicks were currently a +.550 team imo there'd be no way that Chandler wouldn't get a nod because there's also still the reputation of seemingly making Dallas into a contender and them struggling after he left. It's not always about what happened but rather how it's perceived and interpreted.

If they did have a good record I'd agree with you, but the bottom line is that they don't. All of Chandler's points tonight came off of dunks with a guy setting him up. The only thing Chandler has over Varejao is shot blocking imo. Varejao also outplayed him when they were matched up against each other.
