wouldnt surprise me at all to see your lovely owner throw the max (4 years 58 million) at Eric Gordon. I would fully expect the hornets to match, even though theyd be overpaying by a few million, but its better to overpay than lose such a player.

Now my question is, what would the cavs be willing to give up to S&T for Eric Gordon? gotta admit an irving/gordon backcourt would be crazy dangerous.

I do not think the organization is interested in potentially handcuffing their rebuild with a max contract for an oft-injured player. If they are throwing the max at a RFA, it will be the likes of Hibbert and Lopez. Don't get me wrong, a healthy Gordon would be a great fit, but he could end up being the next Allan Houston.

I don't think we go after many free agents this year at all. Definitely not high priced

If the Cavs do get lucky with the #1 pick, it does get tempting to try to get a SG in free agency and go for the quick rebuild:

C: Varajao/Thompson
PF: Davis/Thompson
SF: Gee
SG: Eric Gordon or OJ Mayo
PG: Irving

I'd max him. It's a relatively short contract and worth the risk. He'd be the #2 pick in this draft easily. Plus he's about 23.5 so he is still relatively young. Injury history aside, he's a borderline elite player. This isn't signing Larry Hughes for 6 years.

I'm guessing 2-3 other teams will offer him the max anyways.

Ive been on and off the fence with Gordon... like others have mentioned, his injury history raises large concerns, and when you combine that with the fact that he was the center piece of the CP3 trade, I have a feeling NO will overpay to keep him around... not that I don't believe he is a max player when healthy- but those are the key words... when healthy. I do agree though, that a healthy, consistent Gordon would be the perfect backcourt compliment to Irving...sooo much potential- but would it be worth overspending on?? I don't think so personally. I too would love seeing Hibbert or Lopez in a Cavs uni, but we'll see. It's imperative for us to find a center that can step out and hit the midrange j if we intend on using TT as the starting 4. I will say though that anyone thinking Beal can be the next EJ should re-evaluate their thinking.

I think what we end up doing is throwing a few smaller contracts at guys like Asik, Landry Fields, Budinger etc and try to land 2 smaller contract guys, as well as taking on a contract for draft picks. That way we maintain flexibility and add talent.

I'd say no to Asik... he's like AV but much worse offensively (which is scary to even say). Landry Fields and Budinger could possibly add useless wins, and their talent level isn't worth that in the end. If they were good role players NYK and HOU would look to keep them
