Cavs want to sign max free agent in 2014

Report: Cavs Are Saving Cap Space For Potential Run at LeBron James in 2014

Personally, I think that report is a bit misleading. Sure, we would probably love to sign LeBron in 2014 but the truth is that the Cavs want to sign a max free agent in 2014 whether it be LeBron or not.

You guys can say what you want, but Lebron is a NBA talent that comes along once or twice in a lifetime and I would love to have him back along with Kyrie.

Who's saying that the Cavs wouldn't love to have Lebron back? I'm just saying that he's not the only person that that they'd consider. I thought that was clear.

Yea, I'm not talking about you buddy, just about some idiots I saw on RCF that said they will quit supporting the Cavs if they sign Lebron in 2014. What a bunch of morons.

Lebron lost to Dallas, that got me over hating him. Time for RCF to move on.

The Miami fans seem the most afraid by their defensive comments on the GB. Sound like most of us and Magic fans a couple years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if James would want to come back. He could have a couple rings already under his belt and at the point there is nothing more he can do in Miami. Lebron can fix his image with a return to the Cavs. I really wonder if your owner would take him back though. I prefer the Rose, Durant... humble types. I think it would be hilarious if Gilbert told him to go fly a kite.

I think it would be hilarious if they didn't even target him during 2014 free agency. That would hurt his ego tremendously.

With that being said. By 2014, I would think it would be a moot point to sign a max free agent. All of our young players should be stars by that point so signing somebody to a max contract would be counterproductive IMO.

Obviously you take the best player in the game. I wouldn't even think about him signing here until he has ink to paper though, so it's not worth getting excited about.

Re lebron : I really think it's that unlikely it's not really in my thoughts. Honestly though I don't really want him back, that ship has sailed and both parties have gone on to other things. I think he'd see it that way too. If he did come back though I wouldn't care. I'd embrace it but I really don't see it happening.

There will be a decent crop of players then though and if we can hold on one more season we may have the money to sign two Max free agents. Providing we can lure them here of course.

You really think Lebron is going to come back after the way Dan Gilbert and the fans treated him?

The same subject came up just short of a year ago, as the Heat were preparing for a February contest in Cleveland. Of a potential return to the team that drafted him, James said (as per Tomasson):

" I think it would be great. It would be fun to play in front of these fans again. I had a lot fun times in my seven years here. You can't predict the future, and hopefully I continue to stay healthy. I'm here as a Miami Heat player, and I'm happy where I am now, but I don't rule that out in no sense. And if I decide to come back, hopefully the fans will accept me."

^ honestly I think he is just trying to say the right thing there.

To me there's a lot more reasons for him to stay in Miami than come back here.

It's like going back to an ex. I'll pass.

Over the next two years there are a lot of things that can play out which can put the Cavs on the right course, there is no need to go back to the well that dried up once before and expect a different result.

There are nearly two dozen max/near-max players coming available over the next two years, half of which fit the Cavs timeline. Additionally, the Cavs have 4 picks in 2013, 4 picks in 2014, and 3 picks in 2015. Plenty of options.

I can agree with you on this, however, he could have easily said no. "You know, that was a great time in Cleveland, but unfortunately how things ended, I just do not see a return. I am very happy with the Miami Heat and we are working very hard at winning a title."

He could have easily said that.

^^ That's not very "LeBron-like" of LeBron to close a door of hope

This is the mantra of the General Board, I'm still trying to figure out the grudge that most of them have against the Cavs. Probably left over resentment from LeBron dancing with Danny Green with a 20 point lead in the fourth.

Cleveland even fathoming a Lebron return is admitting how pathetic their situation is.

Yes, considering re signing one of the greatest players ever is a sign of desperation :blank:

guess every team in the league is in a pathetic situation then considering everyone will want him in 2014
