13 -14 team salary and free agency

Post#1 » by kiwibrindle » Mon Apr 29, 2013 12:27 pm

If next year's cap numbers are close to this years, the Cap is around $58 mill and the minimum team salary has to be $49.3 or so millions. Right now the signed roster looks like:

AV at $9 million
Irling at $5.6
TT at $4
Waiters at $3.9
Gee at $3.2
Zeller at $1.6
Ellington at $3.1
1st Pick at $3.9 about
2nd pick at $2.0 about
Livingston if resigned at $2.5 to $3.0
Totals about $40

If we re up Irving and TT to longer term contracts maybe that goes to $50 to $55 and we don't have hugh cap space. But we should have about $7 to 9 million in room to spend and then the luxury tax above that.

This off season, do we make a run at a few people worth a look?

Howard ? :o
Josh Smith?
Iguodala? :-?
Monta Ellis? :)
Splitter? :-?
Millsap?
Jefferson?

I don't think there are any other names that would be worth a look. Or do we just let things simmer until 2014 because of all the dreamers out there that want a certain POS back that I personnel do not think will come back?

You can add a pretty big contract this year and still have the flexibility for a 2014 return. While I don't think the latter is going to happen, its foolish not to keep yourself in a position where it could.

The biggest problem I have with free agency is that I don't see guys I want (for this team) all that much.

I just do not see anyone in this class worth blowing our assets. We have to hope and pray that a star gets really pissed and forces a trade. We also need to move Andy to get max space...

Little concerned at the smile next to Monte's name. Dude is rubbish.

Anyway not really interested in any of those players bar dwight. Even he's not THAT appealing lately. Id still take him.

Wouldn't mind adding another solid bench player or two but i dunno who's available really. I too don't want to mess things up too much so we have a real shot at some good players the following off season. If it's there make the move but don't make one just to do it. AKA don't sign any of the players you've listed. I really hope we don't panic and offer someone like monte, j smooth etc a contract.

Dudes a walking injury. I wouldn't waste my time unless it's a very low contract but i think someone will toss him a bone.

Philly will at least offer him a 3 year deal. I think a team is stupid enough to give him four years @ $15 million per though......however - I might take a flyer on him with 3 years and 36 million but there is literally no reason why Philly/Houston does not offer more.

Would anyone be interested in a second tier FA like Mayo or Pekavic? Both are somewhat of a fit for need. Mayo with the Outside 3 and Pek a decent big. If Noel gets taken number 1 by Orlando, Pek would be a decent center that can take the load off AV some. Thoughts?

Mayo probably not though this time last year i said he may be worth the gamble. But Pek definitely. Very good centre. I think we'd be overpaying for him just like any team will be. But i'd certainly love to have him on the team.

Pek isn't 2nd tier. He's likely to get 50million.

Capable starting center who just put up 16/9 while shooting 52% from the floor and 74% from the stripe while having a PER of 20 for the season. That is a 1st tier free agent.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

He's certainly 1st tier in salary demands, alone.

Certainly going to be an interesting off-season for the Cavs. Lots of ways they could go, with lots of flexible pieces in possible trades.

Even though Dwight wouldn't come here it would be nice to see them make a real run at him.

Irving - Dwight P&R would be sex.

I wouldn't mind Tyreke Evans, long and can play defense. I hate Waiters though, make him our 6th man lol.
