Ellington signed with Dallas

Post#1 » by jbk1234 » Wed Jul 10, 2013 2:24 am

Per Sam Amico: Ellington just signed with Dallas. I didn't expect to keep Livingston and Ellington after we signed Jack, but one of them would have been nice. Currently, our best two outside shooters are Kyrie and the Russian Kid. Looks like Booby might be back at a minimum contract.

As a Mavs fan, what can we legitimately expect from Ellington?

A solid reserve 2. A really good three-point shooter. Overall high true scoring percentage and efficient player. Defense is good enough for the second unit. At $5 million over two years that is a great signing. I was really hoping that we could get him back.

Ellington was the only person that we could count on to be aggressive on offense when Kyrie and Waiters were on the bench/injured. He will be missed but hopefully Jarrett Jack will make us forget about it.

Some nice things said about Ellington in this thread and I agree with all of them. I also thing Jack can do every single one of them. Ellington was a solid bench player, and an above average situational shooter. Jack is an upgrade.

No argument that Jack is an upgrade. The problem is he can only upgrade one position. I had hoped to keep either Ellington or Livingston with my preference was Ellington because of his range. Looks like Booby will be back at the vets minimum.

as much as I appreciated Gibson in 2007, we've more than paid him back for him stepping up when we needed him. He's just way to often injured and inconsistent for us to take him back.

Its not that I would mind taking Boobie back, its just that he fell so far short of what the expectations from that Detroit playoff series showed us he could be. I like the guy as a person as far as what we have been able to see as fans, he seems like a great guy, but he just couldn't stay on the court, and never has been consistent enough to make any real difference.
