Sagana is back!

Post#1 » by gflem » Mon Sep 30, 2013 10:20 pm

Wiretap says Sagana is back. Cant hardly wait. Also Elliot Williams and Jermain Taylor signed for camp as well. At least Taylor looked good in spurts in summer league, Williams could never stay healthy in Portland, he should fit right in.

Da horror, the bad dreams are back if he makes the team (which he won't).

Why is there an exclamation point after the "back"?

Now you guys don't have to worry about Bynum and Varejao's health any more. Worst comes to worst, Gana is ready to lock that paint down.

Oh man does this bring back memories! When I first joined RealGM the hot topic on this board was that draft and we were arguing between taking Diop or Vlad Radmanovic or some other foreign stiff. There was one guy who really wanted Eddie Griffin.

I remember the Cavs beat writers' horror when they watched his first organized practice and he literally could not dribble the ball and move at the same time.

I remember the free throw that went wide left of the backboard.

I'll give Diop credit, I never thought he's last this long. I guess the Cavs could do worse for a #3 center. Looks like he's playing on a 1 yr/$1.4M deal.

Bobcats fan here. If Varejao and Bynum go down DIOP WILL REIGN SUPREME.

So supreme the rim moves back whenever he shoots.

Seems like a lot of GMs should have been fired after that draft.

Heck, in retrospect Boston looks brilliant for taking Joe Johnson at 10, but then they traded him with another 1st round pick for Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers. Then they took Kedrick Brown right after Joe, and Joseph Forte at 21.

The draft did pretty well in terms of All Star players with 8 of them, and 3 out of 6 of them could have been Celtics.

The Cavs also had had 3 chances to come away with an All Star, and didn't even keep the one half decent player they did draft (Haywood).

Yuck.

Yeah that was a crap draft. I remember really liking Jamaal Tinsley and being ticked when the Cavs took Brendan Haywood instead of him. Never liked Haywood.

Wasn't that the draft where Tony Parker and Arenas both went 2nd round? And the Cavs took Jeff Trepagnier, a shooting guard that couldn't shoot a lick.

Delk and Rogers for Joe Johnson, man... I'll cop to having been a really big Rodney Rogers fan, loved his midrange game for such a beefy, rocked up dude.

Really? That was before my time (which to be honest is really saying something).

I know the two most ridiculous things I've read today are that Diop has been in the NBA for 12 years and that he's made 47 million over his career. Unbelievable.

Ugh, I hope he sees hardly any playing time.. I am so glad the Cavs have Bynum, Andy, TT, and Zeller who can all play center.

For what it's worth, he looks like he's in better shape than he ever was for the Bobcats.

I would imagine he's nothing more than a training camp body, and a guy that could be your emergency center if Andy is injured again at some point. You could do much worse for a 3rd/4th center. He's paid $1.4m for the vet minimum, but if he makes the team, only around $850k will actually be paid by the team (the league pays the rest as incentive to keep veterans around with higher minimum salaries instead of being replaced all too early by younger players).

Heck, I'd take Diop as an emergency 3rd center for my Pacers. Sure, I'd keep him inactive most every night and only bring him out in case of a flu bug, or the like, but could do much worse.

Wagner actually looked decent in summer league that year, kind of like a Ben Gordon type of player but his health issues kept him from having any kind of career.

He almost died. Hard to hold that against Wagner. Ben Gordon is a good comp
