Mike Brown "offense"?

This has to be one of the worst things I've ever watched. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the defense, but we've been through this before. How hard is it to hire an offensive assistant to run a decent offense. We do the same thing up the court every time, and it's not even a set. We give it to a big at the top of the three point line, pass it to a wing, set a screen, play off that. Everyone is struggling. Yes, it's early in the season, but I'm not sure if we can survive with this strategy. We can't rely on C.J. Miles to dig us out of poor performances every night. I love when we go inside to Bynum though, I'm not sure when the last time we had a big teams had to double team, that was nice to see.

as a laker fan, all i can do is wish you guys good look. you will most likely be complaining about brown's ineptness on offense all season long. on a separate note, he was great at utlizing bynum in LA as well.

Bynum has old-man knees. Brown might try using him, but he's not the same player he used to be.

I was just about to make a thread about this issue. Its very early so i wouldnt expect things to the stay the same but if they do than either Mike Brown or Kyrie will be out next year if this offense cant expand past what it is now. There is nobody on this team that seems to move without the ball besides Tristan Thompson and occasionaly Andy. I also think Waiters needs to handle the rock a lot more he seems either hesitant or too trigger happy with these step back and pull up jump shots. Waiters can get to the hole with the best of them and unfortunately the refs still dont call many fouls when he gets whacked but he still needs to remain agressive and continue driving to the hole. Kyrie seems to be a bit rusty and his jumpshot doesnt seem as fluid as usual but i guess we still have to give him a bit of time to adjust to a new coach and system. Kyrie seems to want to get his teammates involved but thats hard to do when everybody is standing around watching you dribble around....Its still very early to be worried or panicky but the bottom line imo is that we just look downright terrible on offense especially halfcourt offense.

Mike Brown and offense should never be used in the same phrase or sentence.. Sure the defense may be great, but that is only half of the game. The Cavs are last on offense right now and we have one of the best offensive point guards in the league... It's shocking to see Kyrie shoot just 37% and Waiters shoot 33%. The only player who seems to be playing consistently is CJ Miles for some reason... It's still very early but I hope that something gets fixed with the offense soon.

This is something that is really annoying me. I hate that brown doesnt want waiters to be a ball handler.

Agreed, it would allow Kyrie to play off the ball a bit more. We cant say we didn't know this was coming, we have seen this before.

Do you guys forget that Waiters has this tendency to shoot the ball, like 5-6 possessions in a row?

that hasn't vanished. Waiters needs to play off of Kyrie for right now, after the offense gets a bit more established we will see more of Waiters handling the ball, but there is no reason to set him up to fail right now. Only time he should handle the ball is when Kyrie isn't on the floor, he needs so much work playing off of the ball.

Dion is most effective with ball in hand so i think we're setting him up to fail not giving him that opportunity.

Edit - just watched the bucks game and dion actually handled the ball a fair bit and played pretty well. The team however did not.

Other teams aren't going to let Kyrie beat them. When they double or triple team him, he has to give the ball up.

Cavs as a team have peaked as long as Brown is the coach. Yes Byron's coaching was bad but this is worse. If I'm Kyrie is pull a Ladouchebag move and take my talents someplace where Mike Brown isn't. He has cost us three games to date. He suck the worst. I'm considering not watching a team I was dying to see all summer long. Brown has to go.

Kyrie cant even hit a wide open jump shot. You cant put that on the coach.

The Lakers' offense was very good under Brown. It's on defense where they struggled.

Mike Brown is going to be here for the next 4 years - minimum. Get over it.

I understand your sarcasm but rehiring him was not orginal either.

The three guard offense was an improvement and I actually think Kyrie maybe benefited from having Waiters play the point. Waiters needs the ball Kyrie not as much. He can have it at crunch time but its an intereting thought to see Kyrie at the 2 as an experiment. Plus Waiters is better on dee again the opposing point guard and both have the same trouble with a bigger two on dee. We may see this three guard look more often. I'm sure it wasn't Browns idea ;-)

First of all, I want to say that I trust Coach Brown and realize that this is going to be a long process, probably longer than one season, of him getting his system in place and the guys buying into and understanding it. I think we'll get there eventually, and will be a much better team for it.

Now with that said, allow me to share a quote that Frank Reynolds on RCF just posted...

Remember when Sasha Pavlovic said that his offense was his defense? Well Mike Brown's offense is his defense.

Yea, let that one settle in.

This is why when Brown was being talked about - I immediately said I would be ok if he brought back John Kuester. Well for some reason that did not happen. I think he will work it out - but I understand the concerns. But from an image standpoint alone - Mike is here for at least 4 years imo, unless there is an utter train wreck.

You'd think that any coach in the league as long as Brown would have developed some kind of offensive system that didn't entail the star dribbling for twenty seconds. I don't understand why the entire offense looks like its 'wait for Kyrie'.
