Officially making this into the tank thread for the 2014 draft. I will try to keep our standing updated in here.

As of today 1/5/14, the Cavs are tied for the 5th worst record (least number of wins) with five other teams. Within the next couple of weeks we can solidify our standing for a top 5 pick or move out of the top 10. I'm hoping for the top 5 pick myself.

Well, Im not saying I want them to do it, but they certainly have some great trade pieces to sell off if they decide they do want to go into tank mode.

Varejao, Miles, Jack, and Bynum's contract are all worth quite a bit on the market. I would look to work out a deal with the Bulls where we send them Jack, Miles, and Bynum's contract for some junk and that Bobcats 1st rounder. Saves them money and gets them some backcourt help. Who knows...

I'm sick of the tank, but unless this team turns it around quickly I just don't see how that isn't our best option again. Hopefully we get a couple big wins over the next few games and we can go back to being optimistic.

2 Tanks in a row with a mini tank on the third year is the okc success method.

Realistically, this would be four straight years of tanking ( or just not being good enough ) which is detrimental to team makeup,

You dont want irving to lose interest in winning and just become a immature vince carter type player.

Waiters and Bennett Have disappointed and there doesnt even seem to be a third option on O.

Also considering the East is the Battle of Kursk ( Largest tank battle ever, if you didnt get the reference ), if they dont luck into the lotto and snag parker or wiggins or randle and end up 8th it theyll be in the exact same position next year with a weaker draft.

The first year doesn't count. They didn't know they were tanking until it was too late to do anything about it.

They need to kill two birds with one stone by also letting Bennett loose. Nothing to lose at this point, give the man in game experience.

You are not tanking with Brown.

But still, if I am the coach/GM I will try to play all the young guys.
Trade Jack for an expiring contract and a 2nd round pick, cut Bynum, play all the young guys, doesn't matter the position or fit, just play them, look at what Orlando is doing.

Try to play a fast pace offense, energy, strong defense in the passing lines, rotate the young guys and try to run, this team is not made for defense.

This team is losing....why discuss tanking?, lol.

Even if getting rid of Bynum Is addition by subtraction SFs like Hood, Young, and Grant are going to be available in the mid teens. Sure I'd like to have Wiggins (some of the other top guys would create interesting roster headaches) but there's more to this draft then the top couple guys. Hood for instance looks like a perfect fit, and he's likely to go right around where we're at.

I'm a Raptor fan coming in peace.
I am disappointed in how the Cleveland year has gone I thought you would be one of the teams getting into the playoffs. I also thought that the Raptors would as well. I thought that Washington was over-rated and that Boston would be in tank mode.
Many on the Raptors board wish to tank but I don't think it was to be and that it is better to get into the play-off and show the core players the team wants to win. I like our young players in Jonas and Ross and the young vets. about to come into there prime in DD, Amir and Lowry ( hoping we resign him ).
Like yourselves we will not be in line for a good pick and ours likely much worse about 20 th. and we both need a SF but there seems to be depth for the 1st time in this draft.

Part of me is embarrassed to get top 5 pick in this upcoming draft, but another part of me is like hey we'll finally get 1st option that can lead us to a title...

Then I remember our unorthodox drafting & likelyhood of yet another reach that makes Detroit's Darko over Melo pick in 2003 look reasonable.

There is no value in losing ever. Forget taking. I still can't believe that we can't even inbound the ball.

Our issue is some of the players yes, but our coaching is subpar in my opinion. In some respects I understand why Bynum doesn't want to play here. If I only had a little left in the tank I'd want a shot at the playoffs (at least). I'm really disappointed that the Cleveland coach that got axed today wasn't Mr. Potatoehead

While I guess this is a good thing, it seems odd that you'd be so excited about it given how negative you are about who the Cavaliers have drafted when they've had high picks.

I think top 8 is the sweet spot. That's about as high as Hood or Young is projected to go, and after all the huge names, they are the best fit.
