The Cavs have traded for Luol Deng

Post#1 » by B Mac » Tue Jan 7, 2014 5:53 am

"In exchange for Deng, the Cavs send Chicago Bynum, Cleveland’s right to the Sacramento King’s first round draft pick conveyed in a June 30, 2011 deal, the right for Chicago to swap its own 2015 first round draft pick with the Cavs own 2015 first round draft pick (only in the case that the Cleveland 2015 first round draft pick is between 15 and 30) and the Portland Trail Blazer’s 2015 and 2016 second round draft picks acquired from the Trail Blazers via 2013 draft night trade."

They are sending a pick. If it's our 14 first, Grant needs to be fired.

Ohh Cavs......why do you do this to me? Good trade if you want to be in the playoffs every year and never win anything. Ohh well, Grant trying to save his job by putting us on the treadmill

Glad they only sent what may be two high seconds and one high second.

I guess it's better than trading for Gasol ... At least we have a starting caliber SF now, finally.

Remember when so many Chicago fans swore up and down that they would get Waiters in return for Deng? Yikes..

Pretty great value. A bunch of picks that will never amount to much for an all-star SF and a chance to make a run at the playoffs.

they wouldn't listen to me when I kept telling them that Waiters was staying put.

Hope Deng signs a decent extension.

Yea I agree, it was a steal, still a little mixed about squeaking into the 6-8 seed though. Not sure it's the right direction for the team. Ohh well.

Time to get on board Fart. Really no choice, unless you want to complain for the next 5 months.

That was probably not the only deal the Cavs make either. I heard yesterday that they have another one lined up if their first surprise went through. Well, Im assuming this was the surprise one.. I guess we'll have to wait and see what's next.

Alright my friend, I'm all in with you guys then, playoffs it is! I think we should make a play at Marc Gasol, with our current roster and him, I think are team would be set for 5 years.

I can understand disappointment of the lottery impact but that's such a longshot anyway. This is a good draft - but its also a deep draft. There will be opportunities for us in the middle of the round.

As for Deng, first he could resign. I don't expect it but its a possibility that would make this trade great.
We could also end up signing and trading him in the offseason for another long term piece too.

We were sitting on too many picks to actually use (and actually still are even after this deal). As some point we needed to cash some of those in on a decent size asset. I think Deng qualifies.

...now how do we dump Earl Clark?

@Sam_Vecenie Luol Deng’s 17.4 PER is 1.4 points higher than the combined PER of the Cavs’ two starting SFs this year, Earl Clark and Alonzo Gee.

What about the other trade you mentioned? Doubt they pull that trade and still have enough assets for Love at the deadline/in the summer.

Well if Deng is always injured, then I wonder what Bynum is ..

Seriously get your facts straight, Deng is not injury prone at all.. Just take a look at how many games he's missed the past few seasons. And if you've taken a look at the SFs we have, Deng is a major upgrade. This is a good trade for the Cavs.
