Dengs' worth?

As Deng has already rejected Chicago's $30 million over three year offer, I was just wonder what my fellow Cavs' fans consider his worth to actually be. I wouldn't go any higher than $48 million over four years with the last year being a team option. Thoughts?

I think I agree with the offer you proposed. That being said, I don't think we could get away with a team option and would probably have to make it player which I would be ok with as well.

He is absolutely not a 14 mill/year player. Its a stretch at 4/48 because he is a glorified role player. He does not create and relies on an offensive system to get his. His D is not that great either. 4 years 44 million or 3 years and 36 million is about his true worth. But I could easily see someone giving him 4/48. If we have no other options - we should resign him.

36 over 3 is generous.
I really think he's going to be disappointed with the market. I wouldn't' rule the Cavaliers out.

I feel that 9.25mill/yr would be fair, but he'll likely get 11-12mill/yr somewhere

He definitely has not been playing like a 10+ mil a year player. Whether it is because of his health or whatever, he's not really appearing to be a difference maker.

Mediocre players deserve the MLE.

Not sure who will overpay with 2015 on the horizon... 2015 shaping up to be the next 2010.
Also, a glut of wings are coming into the league. Wiggins, Parker, Young (my hope for the Cavs), Hood, Saric, and Grant all project to be top-20 players. It'll be tough for a team to say Deng at $15 mil for 4 years > Hood @ $3 mil for 4 years.
My money would be on Detroit, if they let Monroe walk or can move Smoove. But ATL, UTA, etc are wildcardish.

Deng's defense is still good and SF is a difficult position to fill. Ariza is hitting the open market as well. I think he's a better fit for the Cavs. I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Wesley Johnson for a cheap contract either. I don't want to overpay Deng but I don't want to go into next season with another clown car at SF and I don't want to turn the position over to a rookie.

There will be a lot of mid range SFs floating around.
Pierce, Gay, Deng, Ariza, Hayword, Granger, etc. Sure many past their prime, but probably still servicable.
I'm a Marvin Williams fan, unspectacular for sure but capable of starting.
I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Chris Singleton either. He's basically done nothing in the NBA but I liked him at draft time a few years back.
Deng certainly seems to be looking for one more payday while quite a few guys will be latching on with contenders. I think it puts him in an odd place in the market and there might not be a lot of more appealing options than Cleveland. I just hope we don't end up bidding against ourselves.

Completely with you on this one. I don't think drafting James Young would limit our need to sign a starting SF though. He'll end up playing some SG.

Im starting to think that Deng should have taken the Bulls offer. He had some great games early on for the Cavs but now he's barely an afterthought eventhough he still gets a good number of open shots.

That is a risk we would have to evaluate, will Deng return to form upon properly resting his Achilles this summer?

Rather than blindly rolling the dice on $30M we could probably get a pretty good idea by giving him some time off and not drowning him in minutes. We knew he wasn't 100% when we got him, and yet we still never get him off the floor.

Until it is clear that we aren't making the playoffs, I have to respectfully disagree. He needs a month or two off to make that evaluation and there isn't enough time left in the season.

Deng is gonna easily get more than 10 million a year, probably over 4 years instead of three. That Bulls offer was a token, there's no way he'll regret not taking it, barring catastrophic injury.

We'll see, other than the very first few games he's looked anything but like a 8 figure players.

Thank god a players worth is not judged on his most recent half season on a lottery team.

I think Deng's time in Cleveland is going to have a negative effect on his market value. He legitimately looks like he's lost a step. His flaws are also magnified in Cleveland, while they were shielded in Chicago. I think suitors will take that into account.

True, because normally they actually look better rather than worse.
