If Kyrie decides not to sign the extension what will happen? I think Gilbert and their front office decides to trade him. Gilbert knows that this time around to handle things differently when a star player decides not to extend with Cleveland and we know who we're talking about.

he just came off winning all star mvp, he's marketability is only climbing, dude's a brand.

25/30 teams would only dream of having a player like that, teams like LA have hard time replacing it, let alone Cle, we just wouldn't.

I agree that it is probably a mistake, but I don't really view it as a big mistake.

Gordon was just greedy, Chicago supposedly offered him 5/$50 extension, but he thought he was worth more.

Remember Chicago and Miami were talking about a sign-and-trade for him but I'm glad we didn't get anything finalized. BTW, we all know he sucked after signing in Detroit, should've stayed in Chicago.

Gordon was overpaid anyway, he was never a max player however.

Wow, how shocking! Everybody already knew an extension was coming. And yeah, there's a chance it doesn't work out, but it'd be a much worse decision to not extend him.

My opinion on Kyrie is that he is a good player, nothing more. A good player that plays the most saturated position in the league and whose productivity is easily replaceable (as seen by the stretch of games he missed). If you can unload him this summer for a top 3 pick and draft a star prospect at small forward or center, then it's a easy move to make. I don't care about how many allstar games he makes, how marketable he is, or any of that crap, all I care about is building the best basketball team possible and competing for titles every year, and Kyrie will NEVER lead any team to an NBA championship. Like I said, he is a good player, but it is absolute joke to act like he is a franchise player that the franchise should build around and accommodate at all costs.

And this is an instance where you don't know what you're talking about again. You're confusing max player for franchise player and player who can lead a team to a championship. A max player means neither of those things. Look at practically any contender in the league. Look at practically any team who has ever won a title. Now look at their #2 option. They're virtually all max-level or damn close. Hell, there's been title teams with #3 options that were max-level players.

Not to mention, you're completely ignoring or at least poorly considering what it means to get rid of him. Getting rid of your best player because you don't think he can lead you to a championship in situations like this is just plain stupid, because, guess what, you just end up without your best player and he's either being replaced by poor alternatives or an that has a realistic (if not likely) chance of being even less. The guy just turned 22!

I don't take Farts side very often, but I dont believe Dion is a poor alternative to Kyrie at the PG position. As evidenced by the stretch of games when Kyrie was out (surprise, surprise). Dion is a better defender, more willing passer, and more durable. He doesn't shoot from deep as well, but doesn't often dribble the air out of the ball as Kyrie does.
I don't think he is a max player yet. But if the team wants to keep him they will have to pay him max money, I just don't know if he will ever be worth it. And, he hasn't shown any inclination to be anything other than the first option on offense. Unless he ends up on a team with Lebron or KG I don't think he will cede being the first option.
Being that he is a PG and has the ball in his hands to initiate the offense it doesn't seem to me that his shoot first mentality will change.
I agree that if we can move him for a top 3 pick that turns into Wiggins or Embiid and a solid player I think it would make the team better.
