Thought about this for awhile with FAs available

Post#1 » by kiwibrindle » Mon May 12, 2014 11:47 am

Guys if the Cavs have any strength (or future stregth, as if we have any strengths at all long as we have mr potatoehead running the team  ); its our guards.. They are the strength. I thought about a trade to get Love or someone else and I each time I always weaken our backcourt no matter what is proposed. Therefore, I think this is the way to go this offseason.

I watched every game in round one and think the team to attempt to copy is Memphis for three reasons. First they may have lost but that's because they have crap at the guards, we don't. Those other two reasons are Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol with a twist. Zach is a free agent with a player option of 16+ mill. What if we sign him to a 3 to 4 year 36 or 38 to 48 or 50 million last year not guaranteed deal will take him to he's 36 or 37. He in my opinion still has gas in the tank. Dude is solid

Then sign Pau Gasol< not Marc, to a similar deal, again 3 or 4 year deal up to 48 to 50 million again not guaranteed for the last year. Why Pau Gasol, because next year his brother is a free agent and I think his brother is the stud I'm really after. We lure him here with 2 Guards way better than Conley, his buddy Zebo, and his brother.

The cap is ~71.75 next year, we are at 32, now. Pau and Zach get us to 56 or so, Deng gets signed for 11 or so. Now we are at 67 and Hawes get signed for 8 so we are at 75. If we resign CJ and Delly and our top pick for another 10 total at most, we are at 85.

So what, Gilbert has the cash and I say screw his money. We are stuck with Brown because of his meddling. If we did this, we would have the bigs of Memphis and the best smalls on the same team as as good as the Nets at least but a lot younger overall. Now that's No trades just money and what a threat in the east for several years to sign Kyrie during the season not now when we suck.

Thoughts?

Why not emulate the great Bucks teams of the late 2000's?

Make a serious run at Ariza. Everything else is pretty much dependent upon Kyrie's commitment to the franchise and the Cavs' commitment to him as the franchise player. Everything from the coach to the supporting cast is dependent upon the answers to those inquiries.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Are we expecting that Marc Gasol wants to play with Z-Bo and his brother so bad he'll take the MLE? Or if it's a sign-and-trade, who are the Cavs sending out? There's no way the Cavs—with Irving, Deng, Z-Bo and Pau all making 8-figure salaries that offseason—could sign Marc outright.

As someone else pointed out, Ariza seems like a good fit. I would just hope he doesn't get complacent with a new deal in hand. Gortat might be a good pickup too, but I wouldn't want him and TT starting together.
