A Not so Odd Reason to Take Embiid

Guys like Wiggins and Parker are looking to be stars in big markets with the Nike deals and the whole deal that comes with the NY or LAs of the world. That does not mean that they won't be stars (I think all three will be), but the question is if they will stay in a small market like Cleveland/Milwuakee for the long term.
Look at what getting a great fit in a small market with a player who is a bit more humble. Duncan never left San Antonio, Hakeem never left Houston.
The question is if it is close and they are all rated the same by the Cavs, should they take the guy that will be there fore a decade or only 4 years?

What makes you think Embiid doesn't want to be a commercial superstar?
Kyrie already is despite being in Cleveland, that type of stuff is determined by person & their personality rather than the market. Personality + winning.
LeBron became a superstar here, his popularity reaching new levels wasn't because of Miami, it was because of championships. Oh other hand Carmelo didn't become more of a star in NY, hell I'd say he was more of a star in Denver.
Duncan's not a showman & we know that, he's an all time great & I love the guy, but he'd be what he is anywhere.
As far as Hakeem, Houston is a huge market.

Amen.
Winning brings attention. Kevin Durant sold over $175 million worth of shoes and he plays in Oklahoma City. Ask Carmelo/Deron Williams/Dwight Howard (LA) how manipulating their way into a big market worked out for them. Not all players have the same mentality, of course, but I think recent stars have shown that big markets don't always present better opportunities. If your team is good, they'll get the ESPN/TNT/ABC slots no matter if it's OKC or New York.

Did you just call Houston a small market?

Whoever we take is with us for 7 barring trade almost certainly. Can't factor that guessing stuff about preference that far down the line. Aside from the player outright saying they hate said city and would be miserable there ahead of the draft

If the medical reports are truly serious, Embiid might fall all the way to #10. Could Philadelphia trade for the #1 and still give Cleveland Embiid? Stranger things have happened.

With all his injuries in the past, I hope you don't draft him. Back injury and now the stress fracture, thats some serious damage...
