According to Ben on RCF Gordon Hayward is in Cleveland today.

Not a bad contingency plan, but that guy is going to take a boatload of cash to pry from Utah.

Personally I have no interest in overpaying for Gordon Hayward... Personally I'd rather have Chandler Parson's if I had to choose between the two... I feel like giving Hayward big money is going to hurt our versatility with what we can do in the future via trade or free agency...

Amico and Windhurst just reported we offered Hayward a max 15 mil a year deal. Why?

I hope Utah matches just because THAT's TOO MUCH.

Or maybe we are doing that to drive up the price on all FA's to screw with Miami. That's the only reason that makes sense.

I don't get why the cavs would offer him the max, and I really doubt Utah will match

As a jazz fan I am a little unsure about you guys going after Hayward. He is a SG that can play SF. But he does not play SF well. The reason you saw such a huge drop in his numbers last year is we moved him from starting SG to starting SF and he is not big enough to shoot over 3s and not quick enough to get space on 3s. When he is a SG he might not get the space but he could shot over them. Same on defense. He can not stay in front of SF. SG he can back off of so they can not get by him and then use this length to bother their shot. Which he can not do with long SFs. See 2 years ago we were running Marvin and Millsap at the 3. Gordon ran mostly at the 2. With Millsap and Jefferson leaving, Marvin became a stretch 4 and Hayward moved up to SF. Also Alec Burks played more and demanded more SG minutes. To be successful, Hayward needs to start at SG and can then play against backup SFs in limited minutes.

I would assume you think Wiggins is your starting SG. So I am confused. You could play Wiggins at 3 but that seems like you are wasting his talent.

Do you think wiggins is a starting 3 or do you think Hayward will figure out the 3? I am trying to see where Hayward fits on your team. This talk to the Cavs worries me. I see the Cavs as the only team with a real shot at Hayward. Well the only team that might max him and the Jazz saying no to a max contract. Because anything out side of a max deal the Jazz match and don't blink. Max deal is the only thing that makes them pause on if they should match or not.

$60M for Hayward is absolutely ridiculous.

If Utah doesn't match (which they'd be crazy to do), it seems obvious that Waiters is getting moved. I doubt he's willing to play the super-sub role for the next handful of years.

Cavs logic: we have Waiters and Wiggins at SG already. We also have karasev. Our biggest need is center. Hey lets throw big money at hayward! Smh....

Wiggins is a 3 and Hayward is certainly a 2. But not worth max money.

Unfortunately Utah will match. They cant lose him for nothing. Unless a s&t is in the works, i can almost guarantee they will match the offer sheet. Dammmit

Hes not worth Max money but what are we supposed to do? Stand on the sidelines with our prick in the wind or actually try and win some damn games. The East is weak as hell so with a few more moves we can atleast be top 4. I am not saying I am 100% on board, but we just inked Kyrie to a 90M deal. The days of the tank are over and I am sure that is what was communicated to KI before he signed.

Would you have felt better offering that ridiculous contract to Gortat?

Hate this logic. "He doesn't fit and he is not worth the money, but we gotta do something". That is a joe dumars move.

Actually I don't even know.

only great thing about Hayward is he's 24. He also seems a lot better when he's not the 1st option.

A guy I'd really consider giving a max to is Kanter.

Well as a Jazz fan I hope they don't match. I like Alec Burks better at SG. Which means Hayward is the SF. Where he struggles and does not deserve big money. I would much rather have Marvin at SF and Burks at SG. Than pay Hayward that crazy money he does not deserve. For max money I want someone that impacts the game and Hayward does not put his stamp on a game. He is a great piece. But I do not wish to pay max money for a nice piece.

That said the Jazz are so far away from the NBA minimum salary I assume they say to themselves, "If we don't spend it on Gordon, then who?" And just match and move him if he does not work out. The Jazz being so far below the cap is going to work against their common sense.

I would say there is a 98% chance the Jazz match. I do like the theory that the Cavs are jsut tryign to screw the Heat by skewing the entire free agent market though. That made me smile.
